Games Factory Knightmare Games

By Alan Boyd

Paul Boland's Knightmare-themed games made using Harvard Graphics 3.0 and Clickteam's The Games Factory from 1995-1998 are available for download.

When Windows 95 came along and DOS became a thing of the past, Harvard Graphics 3.0 for DOS stopped working, and with it, all the Knightmare games I made were lost. They sat on floppy disks for years - over a decade in fact - until recently.

When finally backing up my floppy disks onto CD, I decided to try and access these games one last time. After a lot of trial and error, I successfully managed to transfer them into MS PowerPoint.

It was a real blast from the past to see these again, but there was some loss. The games lost all their playability and I ended up with a collection of slides.

Second, after sitting on a shelf for over a decade, the floppy disks were beyond their sell-by-date and out of sixteen Knightmare games, I only managed to salvage half. I've re-implemented as much gameplay into these as I can.

Instructions

There is a README file; I would recommend you read that before playing. You will need MS PowerPoint (or a free PowerPoint viewer) to play Knightmare 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11 and 15. Knightmare 16 is a standalone EXE and will run in Windows without additional software.

I also recommend that you play these in order. They are all part of an ongoing story. If anyone wants to know what happened in the missing games, do get in touch and I'll tell you how they went.

I hope you enjoy these old Knightmare games. It was a lot of fun for me to see them again after a decade and half of them sitting on floppy disks. If you have any questions or feedback about them, I'm more than happy to hear from you.
