Just a heads up - Challenge TV's rights to Series 4 will expire on 31/5/06 and Series 5 on 30/9/06, so the next showing of these Series could well be the last, so if you haven't seen them yet - don't miss it!. Their rights to Series 3 expired a couple of years ago (it was the first that they bought), and has not been renewed so far. To their credit they have given Knightmare a large exposure over the last few years. Challenge are currently mid-way through Series 6 and until the end of March, Knightmare is on DAILY between 8-9am. 02.01.2006 - And a Happy New Year to you! Welcome back to KNIGHTMARE.COM, now in it's SEVENTH year! Challenge TV will resume Knightmare repeats from 8am on Saturday 7th January 2006, hopefully starting from Series 1 again so here is your chance to catch the first episodes from 1987. The schedule will be the same as last year with double bills 8-9am Saturday and Sunday mornings. You'll also notice some changes to the look of the site over the next few months as pages are being re-formatted - some of which have not been touched since 1998! This should lead to faster loading times and I would like to thank Keith aka 'The Brollachan' for taking on this mammoth task. May I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Knew Year. The quest continues... Illusion 05.11.2005 - The Bring Back Knightmare Campaign The Bring Back Knightmare Campaign (BBK) is a long running campaign to get Knightmare back on TV. In recent times it has taken a back seat as Challenge started showing repeats and Knightmare VR was in development. There are a number of ways you can get involved. Firstly you can visit the bringbackknightmare.co.uk site to read about the campaign and sign the petition, as well as a new message about the future of the campaign. You can also discuss ideas on the Knightmare Discussion Forum on the following threads: -
BBK 11.07.2005 - Knightmare back on Challenge Knightmare is now being shown on Challenge TV again in the same slot as previously - Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8-9am in double bills. Series 1 Episode 1 started on 9th July so you still have a chance to catch Series 1 episodes next weekend. 11.07.2005 - Knightmare VR - Update On 10th May 2005 Tim Child gave an update on Knightmare VR in the forum. The Knightmare VR Development page in the Televirtual website has now been removed, along with all the trial clips. This is because Televirtual need to concentrate on getting their RAP system into production (see their website for information) as priority. Also after much thought, Tim has decided that any new version of Knightmare would be best to contain a mixture of live action and VR (with a real dungeonner, helmet and blue studio). Although Tim believes that full VR would give a much wider gaming pattern, it loses some of the dynamics of the original show as a few people have suggested in feedback to the pilot clips. All monsters and dungeon based cast would however be virtual. There has not been any real interest from UK broadcasters on Knightmare VR, but there has been some interest from abroad. However without a UK production it would not be possible to finance foreign productions. We look forward to developments in the future, but for now the project is on hold. 05.06.2005 - ITV's 50 Greatest Shows ITV is preparing for a three hour special programme in celebration of their 50th Anniversary. This show will be a countdown of their 50 greatest shows, and they are asking viewers to decide the order by giving us the opportunity to vote for our top shows. Knightmare is not one of the top fifty shows on ITV's list, but viewers have the opportunity to nominate one other show in addition to selecting your top five from their list. So, let's nominate Knightmare! To vote visit http://www.itv50vote.com. Discuss this further in the Knightmare Discussion Forum. 05.06.2005 - Anglia's Magdalen Street Studios to close Knightmare was filmed at Anglia TV's Magdalen Street Studios in Norwich. It was announced last month that these studios are to close due to overcapacity as a result of an OFCOM decision to allow ITV regions to reduce the amount of local non-news programming. More details are available on the Knightmare Discussion Forum and you can see archive pictures of the studios in action in the Behind the Scenes - Series 5, Team 4 section. 02.01.2005 - Anniversaries It's now well over 10 years since Knightmare finished on Children's ITV, and the new year marks 6 years of this website. Not much Knightmare knews to report at the moment, but as ever, as soon as anything happens you'll hear it here first. A happy knew year to you! There was a period of forum and clip downtime in the last few days, but this now appears to be resolved. 01.11.2004 - Knightmare Lexicon The Interactive Knightmare website has just launched a new feature called 'Lexicon'. This is intended to become a dictionary/encyclopaedia on all things Knightmare by means of in input from Knightmare fans. Hopefully this will lead to a large Knightmare reference in future, so if you have time see if you can feed it with knowledge! The Knightmare Lexicon: http://ikm.ezri.mine.nu/index.php?page=lexicon. Thanks to Forester for the information. 01.11.2004 - Knightmare on Challenge Knightmare continues on Challenge with double bills every Saturday and Sunday morning at 8am, with late night/early morning repeats the following day. Please check listings for up to date times of the repeats. Currently Challenge are showing Series 7 and Series 8 will follow. It is not yet known what plans there are for Knightmare on after Series 8 is shown again. As expected, Knightmare on Challenge has brought many new viewers to Knightmare who did not see it when it was originally broadcast on ITV. An exciting example of this is from a recent posting on the forum from a new viewer which we thought illustrates the point quite well: Posting by knightmare_rocks on 26th September 2004: I'm ashamed to admit I had never
HEARD of Knightmare until last night at 1.45am when I was bored and
channel hopping and I came across this amazing programme on Challenge! 01.11.2004 - Site Downtime Apologies for the knightmare.com site downtime over the last 7 days. This was due to bandwidth issues and has now been resolved. Basically this site is quite busy, if you get my drift... 26.09.2004 - Win an Eye Shield! Starting Monday 27th
September, the Interactive Knightmare website will be running a Caption
Competition to win an original Eye Shield as featured in Knightmare! 09.09.2004 - Iain Lee talks Knightmare Iain Lee on mentioned Knightmare LBC on 97.3FM
(London) on 19th August, during a phone-in about old TV shows. Iain
mentioned Knightmare to a caller, asking if he remembers it, which the
caller did. Iain made a brief description of the show and mentioned that
it's on Challenge TV every night. Obviously a fan! 19.07.2004 - Knightmare on Challenge From 4th September 2004, Knightmare moves to Saturday and Sunday mornings (time to be confirmed), with a late night repeat. These will be double episodes, giving us 4 episodes per weekend. Unfortunately Knightmare has not been getting sufficient viewing figures recently to maintain the weekday evening slot, however it will continue at weekends from September. Series 3 is currently being repeated again, and they plan to continue until end of Series 8. It is not known yet whether all episodes will be repeated again, but here's hoping! On behalf of the Knightmare fan base I would like to thank Challenge for purchasing all series of Knightmare and showing them in prime time.

FIVE YEARS OF THIS WEBSITE In the last five years we've had well over well over 300,000 hits and over 1000 people sign the guestbooks, and you can read some of the early comments in the guestbook archive. The website has also had a few mentions on various radio stations, but by far the most popular period for the website was after Channel 4 broadcast the '100 Greatest Kids TV Shows' in August 2001. Thousands of people searched for Knightmare on the web after being reminded of the show on TV. A more recent success has been the Knightmare Discussion Forum. It's been a little over one year since the new forum was launched, and over 400 members have subscribed posting a whopping 16,000 posts in 950 topics! We have also managed to uncover a lot of historical information about Knightmare that fans, actors and production staff have been able to contribute. Such material had not been available in the public domain in the past, indeed I had no idea that much of this stuff existed. The website made it possible to share any aspect of Knightmare with hundreds of regular visitors, for example, former contestants have been supplying stories, reviews and photos of their experiences. Actors and production staff have been able to answer questions from fans, and supplying behind the scenes information. Ultimately we also were able to find out the real reasons behind Knightmare's demise, which had been puzzling people many for years. It is ironic that it seems that interest in Knightmare has been increasing in recent years, despite it being nearly 10 years since the original series ended. This has led to repeats on TV and development plans for a new Knightmare. I would like to say thank you to all those who have contributed to this site over the last five years, as without this the site would not be as comprehensive as it is now. Please keep them coming! Long term visitors to the site will have noticed that the site updates are not as regular or as substantial as they once were. Obviously, maintaining such as large website takes a large amount of spare time which is not always available these days. However, luckily the vast majority of Knightmare material is already on the website and future update will continue to concentrate on contributions and updates on new developments as soon as they occur. Knightmare on Challenge Before anyone asks, we do not know if and when Challenge will be showing another series, such as Series 6. As with previous series, this will depend on on the viewing figures and commercial impact of Series 5. We understand that the situation will be reviewed in January. As soon as anything is announced the information will be on this website straight away. |
