Tim Child on 'Take Two'

Take Two was a Children's BBC discussion show, where the studio audience have an opportunity to put forward their views or ask questions to panels of experts on a different subject every show.

I remember that Take Two did a studio discussion about TV game shows. This was broadcast in the early 90s (December 1991 if I can remember correctly). The two panellists were Knightmare's Producer Tim Child, and Bruno Brooks (ex Radio 1 DJ and TV presenter of 'Beat The Teacher' and Sky's 'Love at first Sight', both many years ago. Bruno now runs is own media consultancy firm.

The presenter was of course Sarah Greene (former presenter of the BBC's Going Live and Blue Peter). How could I forget. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed to remind me and provided other information - Nick, Don, Phil, Jonathan, Robin, David and Elizabeth.

The person on the below left says that you should get cash prizes instead of presents so people can buy what they want. Tim Child answers saying that there are restrictions on the type of prizes that can be given out on children's TV programmes, so a symbol or emblem might be better. Below right is the studio audience. The presenter asks for a show of hands on who thinks it is better to get a small prize that no-one has got rather than cash prizes.

Another person said that more money should be spent on making the programme better, rather than having big prizes. Bruno answers by saying that large prizes are necessary to excite the viewers at home.

Other items that was discussed were how annoying some game show presenters are and how women are stereotyped on game shows. The presenter asked the panel about what's in store for the future of game shows. Bruno replies saying that they will become more computerised using technology where every viewer will have the opportunity to take part.

Finally, Tim says that the studio audience are the best games developers in this room, and if time allowed, they could make the 'ultimate TV game show'.
