Anyway not sure what I'm trying to do with this post i guess looking for your comments on the Mogdred Lord fear relationship or connection.. if there is one,

So was Lord Fear still running the dungeon over the 1st 4 seasons? No spy glass to see what his up to, and even his 1st appearance in season 5 he still didn't appear in the game itself..

Another thing i thought was very interesting, Mogdred doing the whole 'hand' thing in season 2.. (sounds like Lord fear has been teached by the master?)

Mogdred also having alot more action in level 2 i thought was very odd, We never got to see im in the 'flesh' all that much but he did make his presence felt a number of times which made him far more 'fighting' We do tend to see alot of Lord fear but he doesn't really put much fear into the team,

Mogdred speeches were far more effective that Lord fears hand. (not knocking the whle hand stuff)

Mogdred was also knowing to try to disguise him self on a number of times...( as a monk?) which reminded me of the whole debate we had in another post about was it Hordiss or lord fear ( you know the one) So if Lord fear does indeed take after Mogdred then it's very possible we should have seen him in disguise,

Has anyone took a look what the ring looks like on Mogdreds hand? does it look anything like the ones Lord fear has?? this could be a clue to a Mogdred/fear connection. Not sure why Mogdred would need to require and assistance to guard the 3rd levels in seasons 3 and 4 i'm guess a double loss on the 2nd was just to much for him.

And we can't for get that Mordred's goblins are indeed the same as Fears, Tiny was seen in season 3.. or do all Goblins look the same???

So did Mordred step down after season 4 or did Lord fear defeat him? Looking at this with Mogdread being the 'boss' of the dungeon, did make an appearance in the 1st season but Merlin say he had to be defeated..

Hummmm The only thing thay really keeps early knightmare and the 2nd stage together is in fact Treguard and maybe the original Helmet. id like to think there so something in the same vain for the oppision,

Only thing that comes to mind is, it was once

Mogdred Vs Merlin, and now it's Treguard Vs Lord Fear,

It was after all Merlin who wanted to stop Lord fear not Treguard... Okay that enough rambling, hope it opens the doors for some good old coverstaion

Tim Child had wanted to get rid of the Merlin/Mogdred scenario for a while as it was too derivative, owed too much to Arthurian legend. I don't think there's any doubt that Lord Fear - or at least SOME kind of new arch-villain - would have been introduced for s5 even if John Woodnutt had been retained.

I remember the dungeoneer at the time suggested it was a con, and I believe him. It might have been a magic glass of some kind, but I doubt it would have been of much use.

The reason why I think Gumboil was probably in Mogdred's employ was because he was always demanding passwords and someone has to assign these things.

And when Fatilla was referring to old skull face it was defnitely Mogdred he meant. Nobody else matched that description at all at the time (unless you're suggesting that one of the skull hauntings or a catacombite was in charge), and Lord Fear hadn't been invented back then. We all like our retro-active explanations for obscurities, but it's not necessary in this case.

Fatilla said he worked for old skull face, but I'm not so sure that was Mogdred. Can't really say with Gumboil cos I havn't seen series 2 in 16 years.

When i first saw Lord Fear I thought that he was head of the opposition all the time, but had never revealed himself, after all there had been no spyblasses before.

Also I think it was interesting that one team were offered a magnifying glass by Merlin and he said that it was no ordinary magnifying glass.

It could've been a spyglass, what would it show?

Wolfshead

Reply to A good Vs Evil topic on Sat, 29 May 2004 11:52:22 GMT

I think Treguard's reduced help for the teams was more about the lack of puzzles and serious obstacles in later years. He was giving hints all the time in the early years because there was a puzzle in almost every room back then. If you watch later seasons, a lot of locations were quite bare.

I agree that Mogdred wasn't as powerful as Lord Fear, and certainly wasn't as powerful as he painted himself. Most of Mogdred's threat came from his ability to intimidate with his booming laugh, but he never did all that much harm actively. Mind you, he was able to restrain Treguard with just a thought, which is something Fear could never do, so we shouldn't write Moggy off altogether.

As for who was the most evil, well that's a very subjective question. How do you quantify evil?

Morghanna's magic killed dungeoneers on both her appearances, but then does that make her particularly evil or just powerful (or for that matter does it just make the teams in question careless)?

Lillith would kill dungeoneers simply for not offering her an adequate present, but looking at her overall it's hard to say she was really evil, just petty and spiteful.

On the whole, I'm not sure anyone was particularly evil in the series - the big-hitters all bad-mouthed a lot, but what evils were they actually committing? They only seemed to be harming the dungeoneers themselves, but why shouldn't they when the dungeoneers were setting themselves up as opponents in the first place?

HStorm

Reply to A good Vs Evil topic on Sat, 29 May 2004 08:51:12 GMT

Lord Fear was the most evil. He may have had a sense of humour but he was always prepared to do harm (he told Lissard and Hands to go and hurt themselves often enogh!) He is also shown throughout the show with the Spy Glasses.

I don't remeber Mogdred from the first time round, but he isn't as powerful as Fear - nor was he integrated into the story. He spent to much time trying to get dungeoneers over to the darkside. Also, his magic was weaker - there was a move away from traditional "spell casting" in the later years e.g. the use of latin words, Treguard used the staff not d-i-s-m-i-s-s, even dungeoneers tended to drink potions instead.

I thought that Hordriss took over from Merlin as the Cheif of the Powers that Be - hence the presentation of the prizes.

Treguard dosen't help the teams solve individual problems in the last few series like he did in 3/4 (he used to hint about what objects to use in each room: "Raise the alarm, team" meaing use the horn) but still hinted ("What did the scroll say?") Maybe it's just that clues were more subtle; they tended to come from dialogue with Pickle or Majida.
