Also, the horned-helmet he wears is a falsity, as to the best of our knowledge Viking helmets never had horns in them. (Horned Vikings are a stereotype handed down to us by the Victorians.)

So... maybe 1175.

By the way, has anyone else noticed the maths error at the start of the first book? William II ("Rufus") succeeded to the throne on the death of Willliam the Conqueror in 1087. William had Dunshelm built as a border defence against Scots marauders and a diversion to keep Saxons from rebelling against the Normans. It says in the book that "William's plan worked for a century and a half", before Vestan of Brittany stole the castle and murdered Baron Dunshelm.

A century and a half later however would have been the year 1237 at the earliest, over 20 years after King John died, and yet John is still supposed to be King when Treguard slew the Gruagach, when he defeated Arawn, when he fought Queen Hel, when he battled Morgana Le Fay...

He was young when he lost his castle and that was in the reign of King John and John was defeinatly on the throne when treguard got back Dunshelm. The Sorcerer's Isle was set in 1216 which is the year John's reign ended.

I'm gessing he was born in the late 1180s.

I always took Vampires to be night-dwellers. Sunlight kills (unsure about the stake through the hart thing) as does decapitation. They must drink human blood to remain healthy and strong.....like we do with water.

*Vampire

\Vam"pire, n. [F. vampire (cf. It. vampiro, G. & D. vampir), fr. Servian vampir.] [Written also vampyre.] 1. A blood-sucking ghost; a soul of a dead person superstitiously believed to come from the grave and wander about by night sucking the blood of persons asleep, thus causing their death. This superstition is now prevalent in parts of Eastern Europe, and was especially current in Hungary about the year 1730.*
