Another random thought, if there's a group of us, perhaps have a crack at a professional Murder Mystery? An evening or perhaps an entire weekend. The Killing Game as an example but there are plenty companies out there. ( http://www.killinggame.co.uk/index.php )

I've just had a look at this as a possible means for making more of a weekend of a murder mystery.

The company seem to offer two types of murder mystery:

1. The standard one starts at about 7PM and ends at around 11PM. Cost is £45 each including dinner.

2. The extended one starts at 4PM and ends at around 11PM. Then it continues for an hour or two the next day. Cost is about £135 each including dinner and one night stay in the hotel.

But, being only 2-3 hours long, as with spymasters, I don't see it being suitable to base a trip around. It would work, however, in the evening of such a trip.

Yes, halfway between a pre-written LARP Lite and a dinner table board game. Good fun providing all players get properly into character (hopefully not difficult for the likes of us! )

Another fun version was a pseudo scavenger hunt put together by Forester (back during one of the RPG projects @ Alstonefield IIRC). Basically trying to find hidden notes giving cryptic clues and plenty Red Herrings (I ended up having one hidden amongst my ponytail!). All the while being stalked by the resident murderer. We find ourselves an interesting venue and try the same idea again?

My suspicion is that it's just a kind of pre-written LARP. In that case, as I've suggested, it's a good idea. However, it should be a separate event.

But aren't they usually quite expensive?

That Spymasters thing crtainly looks interesting and the website does mention that they do Adult Missions (13yrs +). Granted, I've always loved these kind of games. You're right about it being too far away for the sake of an hour though. Perhaps as a part of a larger trawl taking in other venues like this?

Let's focus on sorting something out for the Easter break. At the moment, there have been the following suggestions:

1. Camelot

On the plus side, it's a little different and it has the Knightmare ride. On the downside, people have described it as limited and run down.

2. Spymasters (see www.spymissions.co.uk)

I came across this site and ran it past a few people. It seemed to be a fairly popular idea. But I'm not sure how kiddy-like it is. Maybe they can organise something for us.

The downside is the length of time it runs for (about an hour). It wouldn't be worth most people travelling for.

3. Some other theme park?

The upside here is that we know what we're getitng into. The downside is that it's been done before. Though possibly a while ago.

4. Insert idea here

Any other ideas? Otherwise, I think I'll just stick up a poll and see what's preferred.

Should be held as an extra thing on top of the three events mentioned earlier, even if Camelot is not such a good idea. Darn not going to be about to get the group on Knightmare...the ride.

But let's run it as a separate (additional event). It will require time, preparation, effort and organisation.

London sees most of the activity for mini-meets simply because a lot of KMers live in that area. Alas I do not, so I always appreciate it when things move a little moree Northward. Useful that Blackpool is a popular destination too

It has been mentioned that we could do a LARPing based weekend/week somewhere. Early days for this but I feel it could actually suite the communal peoples rather well. We'll have to develop this idea.

But of course, it's all about finding something to do.

I've found a few other places, but I'm continuing to look.

No, seriously. I've wanted to do an Enfield social for a while, although the problems are that it only has one hotel and there's not much to do - but we have a cinema, leisure centres including swimming and bowling and lots of nice green places to go for walks in. Plus Enfield Town, which is a good shopping centre with many restaurants. It's also easy to get into London so we could spend the final day in central London.

Not very likely, I'll admit, but if anyone's up for a weekend in Enfield I'd love to have a go at hosting a KM social here - why not?

Or, as a more feasible option, a summer picnic somewhere like Hyde Park is always a good way to keep things ticking along. Woodcraft does a lot of those and they've always worked well.

Any other suggestions for an Easter trip?

1. Easter Break

I would definitely be up for this - I originally made the suggestion back in 2007 during the Thorpe Park trip, but it would be fantastic if it actually happened this year. Even if it meant repeatedly queuing up for and riding on Knightmare endlessly.

2. Halloween

3. New Years!

This would be a perfect way to see in the year of Knightmare's 25th anniversary (of which I hope to plan more stuff centred around this at a later date). And I agree that the earlier we make preparations for this, the less expensive it will cost us. (I.E. Leaves more money for drinking!)

Well... "The Road to Hell and Back" will likely go ahead during the Schools October break/Halloween as it has in past few years.

Absolutely - I thoroughly enjoyed the trip To Tulley's Farm back in October (and agree that it should be done again this year) but would definitely give consideration to taking part on the entire length of this trip, giving that I was only available to attend the one part of last year's adventure.

Alton Towers (Staffordshire), Thorpe Park (London) and Tulleys Farm (just South East of London).

Intended as a disjointed roadtrip so obviously scope to add other destinations. The Dungeons (Edinburgh, York, London), York GhostWalks, several Farms besides Tulleys have opened Halloween festivals, plenty smaller theme parks dotted around, You name it... I know Blackpool has seen a fair few scare attractions open over the last couple of years + of course the resorts traditional attractions. Being a central location, perhaps start there and meander South?

A little under a year away so time yet to decide and plan. >:-]
