This has always intrigued me as I thought they could guide the dungeoneer and could not be heard themselves. However, I remember Mogdred once laughing as some advisers made poor attempts to dispel "SHROUD" (does no--one else find it odd that the advisers do the spellcasting?) and I'm sure I could find a few other paradigms of when characters seemed to react to the advisers and dungeoneers. It must have been tough for the actors though, waiting for adviser input to a question they had asked the dungeoneer. I hope I'm making sense here - are there any other instances when game characters react to advisers?

He was reminding the advisors of the clue, and his high-and-mighty goat-featuredness overheard him.

You would notice the lack of ear-hole even if make-up had been used to cover it.

One possibility is that there could have been some kind of monitoring system inside the 'Dungeon' half of the studio (I'm thinking a small PA system here, like backstage in a theatre).

Something similar will have to have been set up in the antechamber to allow the advisors to hear what is going on in the Dungeon. They aren't plugged-in in any way whasoever!

One of the Kelly-vision clips shows a Dungeoneer being 'wired' with a head-set. Presumably, He being able to hear the advisors is more important than most things. However the on stage monitoring should be sufficient for characters.

To add to HStorms early point:- I believe that characters could hear the advisors regardless of which series. There's a Scene in S5, forgotten which quest, where the advisors are discussing whether or not to give a bone to Hordriss. One of them (advisor) remembers the scroll "Give the dog a Bone" at which Hordriss gets highly indignant and gets his hackles up!

I think most of the time in the early seasons they could. Certainly Merlin and the wall mosters seem to respond to advisors answering the occasional riddle rather than the dungeoneer. I think most of the time though, the actors were either told to ignore the advisors, or they just couldn't hear them because they would mutter so.

Hmmm. I know that the dungeoneer had an earpiece to be able to hear the advisors through a mike. I presume the characters must have earpieces as well, because they sometimes communicate with Treguard. I don't think that it would be that difficult to make them unable to hear via the advisers' mikes.
