Hi Morganna,

it's great that you've helped to reinvigorate interest in the programme just when it was beginning to feel like everything that needed to be said, and plenty that didn't , has been said already.

Thank-you, that sounds really good.

It was discovering this fantastic website & forum that really restarted my interest in all things Knightmare.

It's been great watching these episodes again. Some of them i hadn't seen for many years. There are still a few episodes from S6,7,8 that i have never seen, so looking forward to them soon.

Yeah, it's one of two different shield designs you can spot all over the place in Series 5 and 6 (Treguard polishes the other one in an earlier episode, and both can be seen on posts in the indoor market at the start of episode 14). They seem to be symbolic of the dungeoneer being on the right path, and are often used to indicate the exit from a scene, or to highlight where the clue objects are. Hordriss has the Shield of Justice hanging on his wall in Series 6!

Both dungeoneer Jenna ad her sister Andrea have been past contributors to this forum. Jenna posted under the name DeadDungeoneer and has written one post on this very thread, with a few more scattered amongst the Episode 9 thread.

There is also a very good post by Andrea here where she explains some points relating to the team's death.

Andrea is now known as Rea Pearson, having shortened her first name and marrying in the time since. I have also known her personally as a friend since 2001 when I originally got in contact regarding Knightmare (you may have also seen a few brief appearances from her in my documentary).

Then Scaramonger also let them use a free spyglass, which gave them the blocker password.

Evaded some assassins before being lectured by a bad-tempered Gwendoline.

In the next courtyard they were mugged by Sly Hands who stole the box, but when he opened it he was attacked by pixel.

Noticeable that they were able to take pixel with them for further encounters.

Passed the blocker and entered a causeway. It seemed that they had worked out the pattern of defence not aggression, but unfortunately they chose wrongly on the 2nd row. Oooh naaaasty!

They had done well until that point. Some teams make mistakes when it doesn't really matter, but this team were unfortunate that their first mistake was on the unforgiving causeway.

Team 6 chose the quest for the (poisoned) chalice. If only they knew....

They went straight into the level 1 clue-room. How many objects? They are gonna need to reinforce the clue-room tables at this rate.

They deduced from the scroll to take the arrow and leave the lantern, which still left them to choose 1 from 3 which seemed harsh. Chose the gold.

Encountered a very-thinly disguised Hordriss (as a beggar) and agreed to take a book to Sly Hands for him. (Looks like Hands is in for a nasty surprise. ) Hordriss must have placed an anti-digestion spell on the book coz he placed it in the knapsack. He also gifted them a "HERO" spell.

Alex entered the greenwood as time-out arrived.

There's an audible thunk just before Jenna leaves the Blocker room. I wonder if she walked into a wall, or if this was just someone dropping something, or a microphone blip?

One advisor correctly realises that the sword in the stone is likely a reference to Excalibur (although some versions of the Arthurian legends name Excalibur as a separate sword, given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake). In any case, Treguard tells the team not to take the sword. He didn't have any such qualms when Julie pulled it out of the stone two years later!

The status bar appears shortly after Harris put the book in Alex's knapsack, but it doesn't display the book as a possession - whether that's because it's in the knapsack rather than on hand, or maybe because there isn't a lot of space on the status bar to do so, I've no idea! (A possible explanation is that the team were always meant to take the book from Harris, but the fact that the clue room happened earlier was slightly overlooked by the production team. It makes sense to have him appear later in the Level, though.

This episode contains the infamous "Another Name for Hordriss?" competition. I first saw this episode on Sci-Fi, which of course contained no such competition, so I just assumed that this was a free clue for the team and was befuddled as to why they didn't mention it!

I think it took a while to set up each room, and they were probably running though different scenarios with the cast. (We were busy playing Lemmings on the computer in the Green room.) It was certainly a very very disjointed adventure. You forgot where you were by the time you got into the next scene. Quite weird. And yes, I think we met all the cast, and they were all wonderful. I can't speak highly enough of Hugo Myatt and David Learner - they were sweet, entertaining, and extremely funny. They were all brilliant. (You get the picture.) It was around 5 or 6 O'clock on our first day of filming, and we were all completely knackered. We'd already filmed about half an hour's worth of footage, in 3 minute clips, with an hour inbetween each room.

To my knowledge, I don't think we'd ever seen a floor puzzle quite like this before, but I think we had a pretty good idea that the whole thing was going to collapse. Treguard said something like "ah, the path of agression, or the path of defence, it's your choice team, but make it quickly." So we're thinking "what the heck?" again. I turn to Kelly and say, it's got to be the path of defense (which I think they cut).

Then we're looking at the symbols, worrying about the fact we've sat there for a good few seconds trying to work out what's going on, and Treguard and Pickle keep telling us to hurry up. (They cut out some of us flaffing around.) So we manage to get Jenna onto one of the shapes, but we haven't been looking far enough ahead. (For the record, I was short-sighted, but didn't know at the time. It's only when I started to drive that I realised I couldn't read number-plates. I'd never realised that I couldn't see properly before then.)

We're looking at the sword (which is obviously a "defensive" item) and looking at the shape which appears to be a Frightnight's helmet (obviously "agression"), so we decide to head for the sword. We haven't got much time to think, because one of the hexagons has already dropped behind us, so we're panicking. We get Jenna onto the sword, the screen cuts, the crew clap, and we're told that we're dead. Next morning we come back and film the end bit, and have a tour of the studio.

I can't emphasis enough how DIFFERENT it is being in the studio, to how it looks on telly. And how much you just don't know is going to happen. Each series is very different, with different characters, and different ideas. You don't know whether to trust characters (like Gwendaline and Julius), and you don't know what's about to happen in the next scene. The places are completely unfamiliar to you.

And as for "don't open the box" on the scroll on the previous episode, I asked Jenna if the box opened, meaning to say "is it unlocked". If the box was locked, and the key on the table opened it, then we needn't have taken any other objects. It wasn't as dumb as it sounded.

We never really got chance to prove ourselves. If we'd had a floor puzzle with the pattern spelt out - wind, fire, water or rock, scissors, paper, I think we'd have made it across. The next scene was going to be a ride on Smirky. But I think they wanted to drop us in it. They'd already had the team before us do well, and they knew exactly what they were doing when they gave us that particular puzzle. We're not the only team to have died on it, and that other team had it on level 2, not level one!!!

Ah, so it was Citv competition spam then! Speaking of spam, I think Challenge have been quite good with it recently - just the modest Challenge logo in the corner and nothing else.

As for episode discussion...I'm confused! When two episodes are on at once they blend together, and being on so early for a poor owl like me (late to bed, late to rise) doesn't help.

Yeah that's quite understandable, remembering that the team haven't seen any previous attempts of the dungeon so don't know. Did they even recieve any clues that they should take the path of defence, because I don't remember hearing any

(that comment will make sense if you're watching the September 2004 showing) Funny that this, episode 10, first premiered on Challenge on the 10th. Anyways, Team 5 have just said ta-ta to Scaramonger and are entering a room...when a scroll suddenly appears and says 'Another Name For Hordriss?' The remains of a 1991 CiTV competition in action. The team are certainly doing well, it seems nothing can stop them...but then a causeway does exactly that, after the advisors direct Jenna into the path of aggression by mistake. Actually, Andrea herself reveals earlier in this thread that they thought the helmet was a FrightKnight helmet...a simple mistake.

So the Opposition strike back, but we might have a bit of luck with Team 6. Funny seeing the Decender so early in a quest. But that's swiftly forgotten about when they encounter a certain wizard so obviously in disguise. "My name is Hor...er, Harris" Ah-HA! So THAT'S 'Another name for Hordriss'! (writes it down and sends it off to CiTV)

Best of luck. In any case, quality will out.

Hehe, I'll bet the production crew were creasing up on occasion at some of the things that were said. There are probably all manner of things left on the cutting room floor.
