Slidemare

Drassil says he's going to write a fanfic about this idea...

Watching other TV series, would characters that appear in them be versions of Knightmare characters in an "alternative reality" a la Sliders.

For instance, as I suggested on a different topic, McGrew looks suspiciously like Professor Arturo (from Sliders itself).

(A summary of Sliders for anyone who hasn't encountered it before: a science student, Quinn Mallory, builds a device which allows travel into parallel universes ('sliding'). Quinn, his mentor Professor Arturo (a Brit, played by John Rhys Davies, who plays the dwarf in Lord of the Rings), Quinn's friend Wade, and a singer called Rembrandt 'The Crying Man' Brown who happens to be passing, get drawn into a vortex to a parallel earth; and having lost their home coordinates, the 'sliders' travel to a new earth each week as they search for home.

The earths they visit have subtle differences: in one episode they visit a world where the Russians rule America; another where women have facial hair; another where the USA is the BSA - British States of America. And in many episodes, the gang encounter, or get mistaken for, their parallel world counterparts - their 'doubles' - who have character differences. It is a great sci-fi concept. Sorry to ramble.)

For those that do know Sliders: there is one episode where Quinn is mistaken for Jim Morrison, and Arturo is mistaken for Pavarotti (because they're in the company of Rembrandt Brown, who is a superstar on that world), and he furiously explains that he is not Italian! So, perhaps McGrew looks like Pavarotti too.

Perhaps, with his pointy ears and Spock-like eyebrows, Pickle is a displaced Vulcan...

Folly is clearly the duplicate of Timothy Claypole.

With his cool loftiness, Smirkenorff may be the magic manifestation of Hal 9000 from 2001 A Space Oddysey, or maybe Orac from Blake's 7.

I remember Wade looking almost like Elita, albeit without the big mouth.

Judging by the picture at http://knightmare.v21hosting.co.uk/pict ... cedric.htm, Wolf from Gladiators is arguably Cedric's double.

Seen Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? The cult leader from that (who I can't remember the name of) looks exactly like Lord Fear!

Elita/Wade: Maybe, but I actually thought that Elita looks more like the wife from Lost In Space.

Yes, Wolf and Cedric, two peas in a pod. They've got the same attitude too.

The Shiva-worshipper (I can't remember his name either!) looks very much like Fear. Well spotted, that chap.

How about Rothberry? Isn't he just the deadest ringer for Ozzy Osbourne (who's on Top Of The Pops even as I type)?

Donald Rumsfeld sounds like Sidriss' male duplicate...

"There are known knowns. Which is to say that there are things we know that we know. There are also known unknowns, which is to say things that we don't know about, but that we are aware that we know nothing about..." etc.

What a git!

I've just had a thought:

Mistress Goody...

... Jade Goody!  :o

Suddenly the world is a little bit clearer...

How about Hordriss, who does he look like at this time of year?

Big guy, always wears red, booming voice, big white beard?

Blimey, how'd we miss that one? It's the gentle, loving humility and the athletic figure that give it away, don't they?

Does anyone remember Geoff who ran the youth club in Byker Grove? I always thought he was the spitting image of Treguard!  ;D
