Series 4 Episode 12

Post by Tom41 »

(again, merge this with the existing thread if it exists)

Resumed from time-out with Motley in the stocks. Freed him, and Motley agreed to be their guide through the rest of the level - until the going gets rough, that is!
Knice close-up of Motley and dungeoneer - you can see how only the front of the eyes are covered by the helmet! Chased by the ogre out of the room!

Next room with Doorkis. They had to do the calling again, and this time the door monster didn't appear until after the calling (or 'chant' as an adviser put it)!
Scored 3/3 on the true and false riddles, (Motley didn't help with the riddles at all), and gained passage. It looked like the ceiling was going to lower, but didn't this time.

Entered the area with the pit of stagnant water in the middle and the waterfall in the background. Gundrada was there, and when she noticed them Motley decided to run off! Dickon said his quest was for the sword, but quickly corrected it to the crown! After convincing Gundrada that their friend Motley was a head-case, Gundrada decided to accompany them out of the room.
In the eye-shield sequence, the camera seemed to be pointed to the right (into the wall) most of the time! I assume the cameraman would have had to keep as much to the right as possible to avoid falling into the slippery stream going down the steps ;)

Through another eye-shield sequence into the entrance to Ariadne's Lair. They commented that the web looks like it was glowing (growing), so decided to make a quick exit. Ariadne appeared and chased them into the tree stump!

Inside Ariadne's lair, Gundrada was trying to get the food - but Ariadne appeared and chased her off ;) She left the food there so Dickon could get it, as Ariadne decided that Gundrada was better to eat!

Slightly unusual sequence here, the dungeoneer came out of the elf-portal and we saw him from the front as he walked through the wood. Look out for the eye-shield partially disappearing as it reflects the blue of the room!

Encountered Brother Mace in the next forest clearing, and then gave him the 'brandy'. Took a bit of convincing Mace that it was real brandy, but he eventually drunk it... and turned into a huge lizard! Took some food from the table and proceeded to the next area.

Entered the Dunswater area, and the boatman wanted silver or gold to cross. Gave him the silver and got rowed across. Into the castle, down some steps (watch for the graffiti!) and into the transporter pad room. Did this room very well, with the advisers discussing various methods and directions among themselves before telling Dickon how to step. I liked how they got Dickon to step over the red tile at the bottom transporter pad and into the door!

Found a bottle of POISON in the next room, but timed out there. View of some sort of cavern waterfall under the credits, but digitally modified beyond recognition ;)
One day you say "Enter Stranger" and big goblin comes in!

(No this episode along with eps 13 & 14 do not appear to exist)

Dickon is good at telling lies and quick thinking in the seen with Brother Mace. Unfortunately I missed most of the first half of the episode.

Noticed in the Motley scene that Dickon could just about see straight forward

Treated to a classic Knightmare moment as Dickon gave Brother Mace the brandy.

The classic Mace line: “Gosh that’s strong, order two cases!”

Interesting picture below the titles.

“Did you here the one about the three assassins and the sorceress . . . “
Good night out there; whatever you are!

Also once Brother Mace turned into a lizzard you only saw it at the table and not the wider angle shot as Dickon got up to leave.

Yup, for the next few episodes there isn't a pre-existing thread, AFAIK. The next is Episode 15.

Dickon and Co troop on, now in Level 3. There's some pretty neat water effects in this series, including the waterfall in Gundrada's place and the Dunswater. Not computer generated, though, I imagine it's a looping film of real water. Dooris looks pretty good too, shame he/she's so bloomin' annoying. And for heavens sake, Treguard, we KNOW Doorkis is not quite as miserable as Dooris! And of COURSE they can remember the rhyme! Ahem, rant over.
After they completed the transporter pad puzzle, you could hear about 5 extra people clapping in the background. In other words, the production crew!

That's probably why they faded it out so quickly. :)

In the Brother Mace scene, if you look carefully, you'll see that he puts the bottle down far to the side (in order to make the shot work) but it's still slightly in shot still - so it vanishes as Mace turns into the Lizard! Also notice how he disguises the fact that he isn't actually drinking from it by holding the bottle at the top. :)
Subject to change.

Pickle starts off proceedings by one of the best lines this series - "They're from Torquay, by the sea, I see". Motley is quickly freed from the Thing That Constrains People, and leaves us all to guess what happened with the three assassins and the sorceress. "Oh my god, it's the Ogre!" - looks to me like Treguard's evil twin, Fireguard. Now there's an idea for a fanfic.

Motley reveals exactly what we all want to do with the Bore Monsters...sorry, Door Monsters, and we move onto Gundrada's Garden. Gundrada seems to be a Neutral, as she can vary wildly to helping the dungeoneer or being no help whatsoever. Here she guides the dungeoneer out the room, but then gets bored and clears off. And then somehow turns up again in Ariadne's lair, before running away when Ariadne appears (so my Episode 2 theory could be correct after all - see that episode thread to see it).

Now there's an interesting first person view, with the dungeoneer walking out of the portal. That'd have been fun to see more of. Mace appears at a table, and Dickon gives him that 'brandy' Hordriss gave him two episodes ago. This leads up to the most bizarre ad-break ever, where he turns into a Lissard lizard.

The ever-so-talkative Boatman takes them to Level 3, where they battle the Transporter Pad room. As my 2004 self says, the production crew can clearly be heard clapping after they've finished. They time out in a room with a jar of poison on the table...hope they make sure it's not actually a potion!

Team 6 continued to do well and their quest picked-up the pace in this episode.
First they released Motley from the stocks. (Apparently it was his turn this time round.)
We can surmise that the sorceress in Motley's joke was not Morghanna. >:D Something far worse than being put in the stocks would have happened to him if it had been. >:-]

Did very well against Doorkis, another 3/3 and their questions were not the easiest.
They encountered Gundrada. Motley scarpered after some ill-advised remarks, but the team talked Gundrada into helping them.
They reached ariadne's lair and fortunately ariadne pursued Gundrada rather than Dickon, enabling them to take the food & the silver and escape.
Next-up was Brother Mace. A great scene where Dickon uses much initiative to persuade him to drink the fake brandy! ;D Mace was turned into a giant reptile. (Thankfully it was not permanent.) :)
Used the silver to pay the ferryman for the river crossing and then descended to steps to level 3.

The advisors worked-out the transporter pads nicely. I assumed the clapping was Pickle. (and possibly Treguard)
Reached the clue-room just as time-arrived yet again.

As others have said, at times Dickon had the helmet of justice tipped back somewhat.
"I think it's about time you got wise to the ways of real magic. The kind that is borne on the dark side." >:D
