I have a sudden desire to write an adventure game, solely so that if the user types 'kill self' I can have the game respond:

You kill yourself.  It hurts.

Yes! There was usually something like that. It was always worth a try though. :)

That would be good, or perhaps better would be for the computer to destruct and kill you?! :-X

Could it be "Granny's Garden"?

I've still got that at home, actually.

I remember seeing that game at school. It was pretty darn scary, if I remember rightly.

I know that I don't usually use emoticons, but I think this warrants a few.

:o :o :o

I was terrified of that! The blue, blocky wolf face accompanied by the Villain's Theme music - the way it was played over the crude internal speaker just made it even more terrifying.

I played it in Primary 3, I think. Was scared of the thought of it for years afterwards. Also, I loved the way that even at that age I could tell that the game was full of forces choices.

Game: Do you want to go inside?

You: No.

Game: Yes, you do.

(This, as far as I remember, is an actual quote from the game).

On the subject of other adventure games, there was one that my brother found - I can't remember its name - where I got frustrated and typed "damn!" in to the game. It responded with an advert for a hint book.

Let me be honest - the thought of the wolf _still_ scares me, even though I've gone up a few levels in fear tolerance by now (I just watched Braindead, and maybe next time I'll watch it with my eyes open).

The second part was the worst... it seemed to be rather random whether you got captured or not when wandering around that map, and for some reason one of the nasties on the way wanted a key to eat...

"I don't think THAT was a very good idea..."

argh, the witch...

Maybe the key-eating nasty had an iron deficiency.  ;)

I love the creepy music that comes up when you meet the witch! Classic 8-bit 4-channel stuff!
