Blackpool meetup in June-August 2019?

Post by Mystara »

Dear all,

We're looking at doing a meetup over a weekend in Blackpool, some time in June to August 2019. We were wondering how much interest there was. Comment below.

Likewise, work permitting I'm in.

Work pattern currently tends to be mostly 2 weekends in 2 off so hopefully easier to accomodate than previously if it fits right :)

Training school permitting, I should be flexible on the weekend.

The only caveat is that I will need to go home on the Sunday, and we need to keep an eye on engineering works for folks travelling by train.

Looks good for me too. Been three years - think I'm just about ready for my next dose.

Mid-August is a bit sketchy, as I'm not allowed leave over the A-level results / Clearing fortnight. Other than that, think I'm ok for most of the summer.

Let's fly.

I'm also up for this. It will depend on when for me, as I'd need to get the time off work.

Bank holiday weekend in August is a no-go for me as I've got a LARP event that weekend.

Count me in! I live in Manchester these days so can easily scoot over if the trains are running.

Haha, was just mentioning to a few fans recently it was time for our three-year Blackpool tradition :D

I'm there as long as I have a few weeks notice to book time off work.

2019, you say? This sounds like a good opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the website/forum/chatroom and the friendships that have come from them. We can also raise a beverage container to Series 3, Knightmare's Big One, on the eve of its own milestone anniversary.

20 years in which so much has happened in our lives - the good, the bad and the gungey! In some cases, we've grown up and there's even been some that have gone and got married! Whether your contribution has been big or small it's all been part of it. I'm hopefully going to be there enjoying your company in person this summer but please remember this forum is the lifeforce that holds everything together. It's worth remarking that for some time there's been with a few exceptions minimal forum engagement until this meetup suggestion and whilst I appreciate that people have more things going on in their lives it really would be nice to see others, and I'm including myself in this too, watching for example Britain's Favourite Gameshows as pointed out in the latest site article and giving their thoughts here on at least the Knightmare portion thereof.

Okay, sounds as if there's plenty of interest. Before opening a poll to select a date, I suggest we briefly discuss the possible dates. Realistically, it has to be on a (long) weekend. The tried-and-tested schedule would have us all arrive on the Friday early afternoon and then look to travel home on Sunday early afternoon. So we're looking at a weekend between June and August.

Last time we did this, we voted on the date, peoples' availability changed, and the date was moved. As it turned out, the change in date did not result in more people being able to participate and made life harder for others.

Therefore: This time, once the date has been voted on, it will not be changed. Also, to compensate for the inconvenience last time around, attendees of the previous meetup will be given two votes each this time around, rather than one.
