Although you'd probably end up in the basement though. Also the doors will still probably be jammed. Just a thought though. I could imagine being stuck in a lift and the Brollachan suddenly appearing asking you to feed him knowlege.

I would HATE to be stuck in a lift with Ariadne- put it that way, simply terrified- :o

Maybe myself and Greystagg- although neither of us would be very good at making conversation considering all she's interested in is witch amber. And how can you talk about witch amber for three hours!? ::)

As for two km characters, well, it would be entertaining to see Merlin, and a goblin stuck in a lift. ;D

Myself and the Boat Man

*5 minutes silence*

Me:"Erm, is that a new cloak you've got over your head?"
BM:"Grumph."

*2 more minutes silence*

"I hear you cross rivers in a boat."
"Murph."

*17 minutes silence.*

"I think I'm going insane here..."
"Me too, as a matter of fact."
"Sorry, what did you just say?"
"Er, I mean-'mmurph.'"

Suddenly being trapped in a lift with Lord Fear doesn't seem so bad.

I think both the Boatman and Brother Strange go to the same tailor. They both go for the 'scruffy cowl hiding face' look.

Do you think the boatman is meant to be Charon, the dead guy that rows souls to Hades (AKA Level 3)?

Yes. In the same way that Festus is supposed to be Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of Hades.

Myself and Morghanna. Or Greystagg. Or Mellisandre. Or Stiletta... :)

How about Brother Silence and Bostro? Imagine the conversations they'd have!

Hades was a god not a place.

The Greek Hell was Tartarus.

Hades was both the name of the god who ruled the Underworld, and, via metonymy, was a name given to his kingdom.

In the book "Sorceror's Isle" the boatman is Charon and the river is the Styx, I have often though that the Dunswater could really be the Styx and the boatman could be Charon.

The idea of level 3 being the Isle of the dead ties in with the level 3 of "Labarynth of Fear" as that is Hell, Hades or Tartarus.

The idea of Charon and the Styx could be a great one to use in VR. I always thought the Styx was supposed to be a river deep down in underground caverns. An underground Styx as an entrance to Level 3 would be cool.

And a reintroducing of Festus may well be in order. If only we could see him this time...

I think the Boatman's rates were extortionate compared to Charon's. Charon needed a coin, Boatman needed an ingot of silver or gold, or sometimes both! No wonder Charon PLC got such a big share of the Ethereal Ferrying market!

I think festus is definatly inspired by Cerberus, but I think Festus had five heads rather than three. I do know however that Mr Grimwold bit one of them off errr

(Apologies to the Mods et al for drifting further off-topic...)

The Underworld in Greek mythology consisted of Elysium (fields of paradise), Asphodel (plains of nothingness), and as Pendragon mentions, Tartarus (place of eternal, hellish punishments) - three areas. Possibly not a coincidence that the Dungeon consists of three levels. See http://homepage.mac.com/cparada/GML/Underworld.html for more information.

According to Mrs. Grimwold, Festus had three heads before her husband bit one off, and five tails (which he sometimes wagged all at the same time). The number of heads that Cerberus had varies between ancient authors - one source says fifty heads. Cerberus appears in the second KM gamebook, Labyrinths Of Fear.
