How about...Knightmare-type smileys?
I've been giving it a little thought, and I'm just curious as to why you don't have any Knightmare themed smiley's here.
I know that 9 out of 10 users may not use that many smileys, but surely it would have that extra little 'ooh, lookie' value if you had skull themed Happy/Sad/Whatever smileys, or little 'enchanted sword' exclamation point smileys and the like.
I may be mildly mad at suggesting such an odd thing, but it's an interesting thought, non?

I only say that because...
The default smiles are just too...egh...cute for Knightmare. ;D
But still - Pix', those smile's in the topic 'Which Blahblah do you prefer' are just what I'm talkin' about - but there oughta be some other Knightmare themed smiley's somewhere. :D
BTW - that saw-em-smiley is uber messy, and fun to watch over and over - Just like KM was/is/shall forever be.

On most YaBB forums you can change the icons, at least. I remember some opinionated crone suggesting a while back that there could life force images instead of the current icons for "normal topic", "hot topic" and such. I suppose one concern- if these things are possible- is to not make things too complicated. But the main thing is surely that it needs someone to actually create them all- something this bald wizard-hag composite is happy to admit he wouldn't have the first idea about.

also i think they can slow down the load time of a page considerably...esp if you have a 56K modem or somthing.

Screw animated icons...
A picture says a thousand more words than any action...
animated icons make for heavier D/L times, and so wouldn't be as good to use as, say, still picture-based ones.
Personally, I'd say that Pickle's skulls cover the skull criteria well - despite the animation, obviously. We'd just need somebuddy { } to volunteer to do s'more...
but heck, I'm just an apparition of the forums, and thus my opinion is like the wind - cold, and passing...

Oh, I was definitely talking about pictures rather than animation.

May I just ask, Illusion, if all the icons and such that seem to becoming the fashion are likely to slow things down at all?

Re: How about...Knightmare-type smileys?
Small icon animations are usually of tiny small file size so there shouldn't be any major slowing down, however it may also be affected by how many requests the browser needs to make to how many servers to retrieve the graphics.May I just ask, Illusion, if all the icons and such that seem to becoming the fashion are likely to slow things down at all?
Obviously if people start adding larger graphics to their sigs then there might be cause for concern.
Regarding customised smileys, It's probably possible to replace some of the existing ones. I might experiment with this later by replacing the smileys that are least used with some Knightmare style ones to see how things go.
