Knightmare VR?  I don't like the concept!

Post by RiddlerJ »

Hi all,  I just read on the BringBackKnightmare website that they're in production of Knightmare VR.  Sounds great until I read what they were actually doing.  Instead of having someone blindfolded through the levels, it will be all CGI created, with no need for a Human Dungeoneer.

Why?  It takes away 1) The whole team aspect 2) The sense of urgency & 3) Just makes it into one of those phone in TV games where you have to shout 'left' & 'right' for half a minute.

They should bring it back as it was.  I'm not impressed with the proposals of entire CGI.  It's as insulting as the idea of Hollywood getting their hands on a live action Akira movie.

Not fair.  >:(

Amen. Those "left left left" games suck very badly due to lag, so it won't do as well and level 3 will be a fantasy, since no-one will ever get to it.

The concept is interesting...I am willing, like I have said from the start, to let it impress me, before I start slagging it off.

Wait and see, have the faith in KM that you always used to have when another new season came on.  I believe it will be good....I just hope they do get it right.

Very well said, Kieran.

I've issued slight concerns at how it's going to work - thinking it can't be exactly the same. But why should I let the unsureness worry me, and let it excite me instead.

One must hold faith in Mr Child, that, as the original creator of the sacred Knightmare, he will know exactly what he is doing, and creating the ultimate.

It won't blind my judgement when it comes out - but why bother judging it now?

Piece said. :) KaM

I don't like the concept, either. I haven't from the time it was mentioned.

However, I'm willing to give it a go - it will be interesting to see what happens to KM with the changes, especially with Tim Child at the helm.

I think it's a bad idea, I don't think it will work nearly half as well, but I haven't seen it, so I wouldn't know!

Could be interesting to see...

...if it ever gets made, that is!

Course it will,  I think enough has been said/shown about it from Tim, now, that means it is a fair cert it will happen in next 2 years at least.

Both very valid views from KaM and Kieran.
I never actually thought about the "left left left" idea...it could be quite annoying if there was lag, and there is also the idea that excitement is removed by the lack of blundering on the dungeoneer's part - the dungeoneer would be foolproof, would it not?
Ah well - we shall see soon enough for ourselves...it will be worth the wait either way, just to see what can be done nowadays ^.^

I seriously doubt there would be any kind of time lag at all. Looking at the TimeGate pilot, it is pretty obvious that the equipment being used is so advanced that everything can happen in real time.

A few years ago, the idea of real time 3D rendering was laughable but now it is a reality. Technology is now ready for it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if it has tension it will be Km. And Tim Child himself has said that they wouldn't spend their time on it if they didn't think that they could make it work. So there.  ;)

Just a snippet for the impatient ones.
We've applied for a Film council/lottery funded grant to help us build the new KM demonstrator. That's why we stopped work on the current development images for a month or so to await the result of that application.
I'm not currently allowed to say what that result is - but I think you can expect things to start happening again.  :-X
