No one has yet mentioned that the "guy behind bars" could be a previous dungeoneer captured by Mogdred and is depicted in the opening sequences as a warning to future dungeoneers! ;D
I agree with Jim. That guy could be someone who lost in Level 1 or so. (It's got a beard afterall) Trying to scare timid dungeoneers of.It could be an Elf as well, it's ears are pointed.
