*Sigh.*
I'm not saying you shouldn't use them at all, I'm just saying fanfic writers use them too often. In particular, I feel very annoyed with myself when I use them after a track of speech. Every so often is fine, but I always catch myself using them after almost every bit of speech, "he said guiltily".
They slow stories down and are often redundant, as the words of the dialogue itself will tell the reader what the tone is. It's only when the speech doesn't let the reader know that you should use them.

I like using adverbs in my fan fictions but I would be lost without them I fear.

Yep, I think that's the crucial point. They're meant to give the reader more of a sense of tone and texture and draw them into the piece, but if used too much can in fact do the opposite. If you're reading something and noticing the adverbs rather than immersing yourself in the story, it's perhaps the fault of the author. Having said that, I suppose the same is true of all overly-repeated forms.
Language is perhaps our greatest tool, but once the reader starts to notice it rather than read, it's not doing its intended job, in my
personal opinion.

(Could have been worse I could have used Fidjit.)
That's below the belt! You shouldn't suggest such a thing in polite company!

Hmmm, if (and that's a big if) I ever write my KM fanfic, I'll probably fail in that challenge HStorm. I like my descriptions. My fic would probably be most noteable for the most excessive use of the word "twat" since my Harry Potter summaries though.

In fact I don't mind Harry Potter. It's way overrated, but it's still a good yarn. It's nowhere near as trite as Lord Of The Rings anyway.

Yes, I must admit to liking Harry Potter (and being a proud if half-arsed Ravenclaw) too, sorry Skarky! I just happen to think 90% of the characters are twats.

Well, I suppose Fidjit as Dungeon Master and Casper as Assistant would be the worst combination. You could make it even worse by turning Captain Nemanor's hat into a plinth for Casper to "sit" on. I don't know if annoying keys "sit" or "lay", or what.
