Hi there. If you're interested in the bizarre chain of events that led to Knightmare's cancellation, Tim Child's "History of Knightmare" on this site gives a really good account. :)

Very good account, and odd reasoning, and since then CITV have changed their story twice to my knowledge!

Which begs the question: If this new series is for a children's programming strand, why should CITV (or CBBC for that matter) commission it when their [official] reason for pulling the plug originally was the changing age range on their target audience?

I have a feeling that the new Knightmare may be aimed at a younger audience than the original show, which would make sense.

Oh dear. I don't like the sound of that very much.

Incidentally, I'd assume that the CITV demographic situation was a bit like the chicken and the egg. Fewer people of an older age group watched CITV (apparently), so they cut programming to that group. So of course fewer still watched. And so they end up with a much smaller target audience than before, which may have some advantages, but it certainly has its downsides too.

I say Km should be put out in primetime! Never mind CITV (traitors).

EEEP...NO NO NO.

Younger Demo' means DUMBED down to illogical levels, thus slaughtering ANY potential to rekindle the lost art of the Greater game...

If they're gonna do ANYTHING, keep it to the 10-15 levels, and GET SOME GOOD SCRIPTWRITERS...

I don't like the idea of having ANYBODY currently doing scripts for kid shows to be involved. It'd need somebody who knows how to write a fairly good adventure/Novel quiz script AND keep it to the Medievil era, at least for the most part...

It's not shakesphere, but STANDARDS need to be maintained if it's gonna be credible.

Well, looking at the credits, Tim Child himself did most of the scripting (being a former journalist he's obviously equipped for it). Maybe some extra writers will have to be brought in - he won't have so much time for writing this time around, seeing as how he has a company to run as well.

Is timeGate going to be an older audience or a younger one?

I think Timegate has been designed as an adult programme (no, not in that sense!) for an evening/night timeslot.

I wonder how the commissioning for it is going? I hope it does get commissioned. What with the BBC being asked to justify it's licence fee and launching new channels, the time is right.
