Temper temper

Which character do you like so much that it makes you angry when other fans slag them off, even when you know full well that the criticisms are entirely justified?

With me, yes I admit it, I get peeved when people snipe at Majida.

I have to agree, Majida was exactly what was needed, a fresh new look for an assistant after Pickle had run his course.  She does get some unnecessary critcism, especially when it is just 'She wasn't as good as Pickle therefore she is bad', which has appeared a few times.

1. Majida: So What If She replaced Pickle

2. Snapper-Jack: He might have been a bit pantomieish but he had the potencial, to become KM version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Child Catcher. He was also a good comedy badie in my oppinion.

3. Maldame/Greystag: Both characters were good and well acted by Iona Kennady. Even if she was better as Sidriss it dosen't mean that theses two characters were bad. So what if Maldame mainly only apperd at a Balconey or as a face in a window, that was due to Iona's Pregnency so could not be helped.

4. Julius Scaramounger: Why was it a bad thing that Julius was not allined with either The Powers That Be or The Opposition in his first series? Half of the characters in S1-S4 never had alliances to any one but them selves.

1.  I agree, so what if she replaced Pickle? She couldn't do anything to help that. I also say, as I have on many occasions, "What was so great about Pickle anyway?"

2.   I disagree about Snapper Jack. He was irritation personified.

3.  Yeah I liked Greystagg. Not so sure about Maldame, but she didn't do any harm.

4.  I guess most people just prefer to think in terms of good v evil, and a clear distinction. A more realistic world is also more complex, and has many shades in between the two extremes. That's far more engrossing, but not very relaxing, and some people prefer to have any easy life from their entertainment.

On an overall point by the way, these two posts are just a notch off-topic. The question basically asks which characters you are IRRATIONALLY protective of, i.e. you launch into a stubborn, mindless, spitting rage every time they receive a criticism, even when the criticism is perfectly constructive and fair.

Like I say, I get like that about Majida, even though a lot of the criticisms she gets are fair  -  her fake accent IS irritating, she really DOESN'T have a clue how to do her job. But even though I'm aware of this, I still leap into a mindless, impassioned defence of her every time someone else says it.

What is so wrong With Snapper-Jack?

I Think I might start a Topic on this and ask why he seems to annoy KM fans so much.

The voice and a glove puppet? If I wanted to go back to that stage of my life I'd watch recordings of The Keith Harris and Orville Show.

Then that would have to be

Elita & Skarkill.

For me.

I quite like Snapper-Jack. I think just the thought of a prowling testing-agent amongst the lower levels was creepy, and his almost jocular style made it even more sinister. I think Bill Cashmore has a great series. I can see where complaint might be about the need to make it more pointedly scary, or even more difficult (as S3), but I remember every time a team crossed S-J in S8, I was certain that somebody would fall to him at some point, especially seeing how he didn't always acknowledge truth or falsehood when given an answer - just an indication of right or wrong.

On saying that, several series of S-J wouldn't have worked - one was quite enough - and without the words to explain, I just think a character like his suited the more futuristic tinge to S8's Level 3a and 3b.  ;)

I don't see everyone's dislike of Julius Scaramonger. He carried the hard-done-by trader cliche (sorry, can't acute on this laptop) brilliantly (awww to all the little Scaramongers - god help them) - and I think, especially as seen with Chris's team in later S5, when the 'pollution' potion he offered them initially sounded suspect, but would have been the right option to take to melt the ice around the firestone, he established that reputation of ambiguity within everything he did, so it sometimes took some real thinking to be certain teams were attaining the correct object / help for their quest. I am a huge fan of that quest; especially with its Keith and Kieran (Ciaran) there in the antichamber; since it demonstrated the ability for a team to rectify a big mistake and get further, only for the team to spern that possibility, without having Motley's stick to hand. Still - said too much, my quest stops here.

I liked Gibbet. Even though he only made 2 appearances in Series 1, I'll forever stand by my statement that on one of those occasions he put an end to a dungeneer's quest, which is a higher kill percentage than most of the other bad guys!  ;D

Okay.

1. Majida. I think it's because I dislike Pickle rather a huge amount now that I get annoyed when people criticise Majida for being annoying. The end to Julie's quest in Series 7 is one of my absolute favourite KM "moments" (although I mean about the last 3 minutes) and it's Majida who makes it work.

2. Although I don't see too many people criticising him, if people are laying into Julius Scaramonger, I will spank them. And no, not in a nice way.

3. Mrs. Grimwold. Yes, it really sets my teeth on edge when people criticise her for being slightly two-dimensional and not having amazing possibilities. I think she had more possibilities than some people would have you believe, but in any case, surely the aim wasn't to create characters who'd be suitably rounded and textured to be the focus of a BBC2 Drama. It was to entertain, and I think most people in their heart of hearts would have to admit that "she" is entertaining, at the very least.

4. Marta. Oops. What a litter fibber I am.

Well as I don't have as many memories of some series I just defend the show as a whole, for example the other day someone I know when asked about KM said. "That show is crap it's graphics are awful!" I pointed out to him it was made in the 80s-90s and that the graphics were of its time.

On of my mates who is also a fan of KM dose. Its a consternt sorce of debate/argument between us.

He says that all the KM Traders were stupied and unesercery but That Scaramounger was the wost.

I say that they were good, added some hummor to the show and full filled a purpose. Which is more then can be said for his favirot characters RAPTOR & CAPTAIN NEMNOR.

Well, as a wise man once said: "Don't take life too seriously. you'll never get out of it alive." Thus I don't usually get annoyed when people insult my favourite characters, hell I'm even guilty of it myself. Though there are one or two things that annoy me, namely:

1: Blaming Majida for making the Helm of Justice crap. THIS WAS NOT MAJIDA'S FAULT! BLAME TIM CHILD, NOT THE CHARACTER!

2: When people go on about how Elita was responsible for Team 3's death in Series 5. General assumption seems to be that "she sent them into the Corridor of Blades", which seems to overlook that the CoB is a fairly common quest hazard. (and end) Should she have given them magic to survive the CoB then? I can think of only two cases of outside help being used in the CoB, that would be when Gundrada took a Dungeoneer through it in S4 and when a spell was needed to slow it down from Hyper Mode in S8. So, in mot cases the Dungeoneer gets through the CoB on their own. My theory is that had the team just given Elita the bloody gem instead of being twats, they would have gotten a spell or password or similar, NOT help on the CoB. And in S1-4, when teams died as a result of failing to earn magic from Merlin, did Merlin get the blame? Nope. Okay, so Elita DID take the gem without helping them, but given the way they arsed about (and their earlier arsing about with Julius Scaramonger) I'm not surprised. (hell, if I'd been Elita, I'd have pointed them right into the CoB!) Take a look at Team 4, they just give her the bloody thing and she not only frees Motley but gives them the colour code. See, that's what you get when you DON'T arse about like twats!

Wow, that rant was long. Guess it annoys me more than I thought...
