Those old songs
With Christmas coming up n' all, and with the new "popstars" running about all over the place, it's time to list what was number one in the charts every Christmas year, when Knightmare was on.
1987 Series 1 Always on my Mind (Pet Shop Boys)
1988 Series 2 Mistletoe and Wine (Cliff Richard)
1989 Series 3 Do they know it's... (Band Aid 2)

1991 Series 5 Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
1992 Series 6 I Will Always Love You (Whitney H)
1993 Series 7 Babe (Take That)
1994 Series 8 Stay Another Day (East 17)

Re: Those old songs
You got one wrong. The 1993 Christmas number one was Mr Blobby by Mr Blobby.
Funny how out of those 8 songs, only 3 are Christmas songs, and only 3 are any good.

Also, since 1980 there have only been five Christmas number ones that were actually Christmas songs, and two of them were "Do They Know It's Christmas?"!

Re: Those old songs
I don't actually mind the fact that some aren't Christmas songs. Personally I get fed up that they bring out the same old tatty songs every year around this time. Are they wheeling Cliff out for something awful again this year? I know he does everything in a good cause, but just, please, no.1987 Series 1 Always on my Mind (Pet Shop Boys)

I think I prefer the first one out of all these. Yeh, it's not a Christmas song, but in my view it's still darn good.

Yep, you're right about Mr Blobby being Number 1 in 1993- he actually held the post on 2 seperate occasions and I'd misread the singles page

bad music always comes out this time of year (and most of the rest) but then whats wrong with being silly at xmas?
i think Meat loaf shood geta move on with his new album and before the xmas number one.. its time that a great rocker took the crown, or the return of zztop :D
the thing what that cliff dude his now lost his mind he doesnt know whats his doing or were he is.. but i dare say Ozzy osbourne is starting to go in that direction as well but come on his got an excuse ;)

You still have more sympathy (at least from me) than if you'd admitted buying Cliff's Mistletoe and Wine.
Cheers! It's so nice to have your sympathy!
