It was all done on 486s I think. Do you remember Thesp?

I watched it all, and liked it (though it wasn't a patch on Knightmare).

Virtually Impossible

Post by Wolfshead »

What do you guys think about it?

Were any of the Knightmare actors in it?
Was there any chance of it returning the following year in place of Knightmare?

They may have used that stupid pie/cake as energy for all the good it did in Knightmare s8!!!! then the fish might have died from food poisoning thus no recomission!!!!! Oh sorry i forgot, it didnt get re-comissioned as the fish might have dies or was it splattered????? Who knows?? or maybe Lord Fear found it and kidnapped it so Knightmare would come back????

Didn't 'Codsby' return later as a Channel4 late-nite presenter? I think the program was a 'pop-up video' type clone but can't remember the name...

VI? Nice idea... CRAP execution!

Computer hardware at the time simply wasn't up to the rigours of what TC attempted.

If they tried something like that today.....

That'll be 'Karaoke Fishtank'. Can't remember its name but it wasn't the same fish.

Virtually Impossible now on YouTube

Post by Drassil »

Thank you to YouTube user Mitogen for recently providing an episode of Virtually Impossible. Here is Part 1 of 3. At the time, the series completely passed me by, so I was pleased at this opportunity.

I now appreciate why Codsby has been battered by previous posters. Under different circumstances, I might have been willing to defend him as cute; but sadly, he has the voice of Barney the Dinosaur while being only slightly less of an affront to evolution.

I wonder if he was named after Bill Cosby.

Though interestingly, it turns out that the same actor-comedian, Logan Murray, was behind both. As Debz_g said in an earlier post, they were from the same aquarium, and there is still a picture of Vince Finn on televirtual.com.

hmmmm havin watch the fish programme it looked a hurried job as we of course expected 15 weeks of knightmare. it might have worked 2 years later after knightmare had gone. the problem was the show wasn't long enough nor the games. the baddy, well she wasn't up to much

When Virtually Impossible appeared on our screens at the end of 1994, I, like most of this thread's posters, had no time for it; I think I watched only two or three episodes before I had had enough. The main reason for this was that it was not Knightmare. However, seeing that someone had posted a "YouTube" link to an episode of VI, I figured that, after a fifteen-year grudge, it deserved another chance.

To be fair to it, it does not appear as bad now as I used to think. The games remind me of the SNES game (and movie) The Lawnmower Man, while the set looks a bit like the one used in Scavengers (hosted by John Leslie). Indeed, were it not for its unfortunate time of release, I am sure I would have enjoyed VI, since the games actually look quite involving (if a touch short).

Now to the problems with it:

1. It is not Knightmare (yes, the grudge is still there).
2. Codsby is extremely annoying and overuses the word "congratulations".
3. The episodes are self-contained, removing the "cliffhanger effect" that worked so well in Knightmare.
4. The main antagonist is not a patch on either Lord Fear or Mogdred.

By far the best thing about VI was the use of Series 8 sound effects. No doubt about that at all.

Finally, does anyone know if the same four games were used in every episode? If so, it is a shame; a bit of variety would work nicely.

It is not exactly the same four games each time, although the end game is always the same, but I remember they had at least one more game, which involved the "Ranger" walking around on a virtual pinball machine.
