Re: "Simon - sidestep to your left..."
Not having seen Series 4 on CITV back in 1990 (I started some way into Series 6), but having heard numerous references to it in the past, I was glad to have seen it for the first time on Challenge?. But I have one complaint: people seem always to remember this and never the equally incompetent "side-step left" incident which caused Nathan's death in Series 8 (there is a clip in the series guide, for those who don't remember). Why?

I think advisors roles should be as follows:
1 - Guiding
2 - Describing surroundings
3 - Spellcasting and answering questions
On another note - glad to see team 4's death again as it is the most famous. Also glad the dong has returned during deaths as it has been missing lately. Also whats with the other noises during Simon's death - a couple of strange noises accompanied by an air raid siren?

im sure Porsmond didn't intend to spoil it for you. it's just that most people here know that...there was only one winning team this series, team 6, dickon's

In fact, if you read the story of a winning quest on this site (where they've provided tons of photographs) you see a scan of the Adventurer's Code that the team are sent before coming on the show. It clearly states that one adviser will be nominated as the 'spellcaster' and is the only one that can invoke spells via spellcasting. I think most teams also organised themselves into a guider and hazard/clue-spotter arrangement, as well as the spellcaster.

Reminds of the scene when Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses falls into the bar!

If you watch just after the scene you can see the advisor on the left, proudly picking his nose!

Re: "Simon - sidestep to your left..."
With regards to the issue of whether HM and DL found it funny or had any opinion as to what the quests were doing, that question has been answered in an old issue of TES (the second in fact!) - DL's response is here:

(why doesn't the "a href" tag work in YaBBC Code?)
It's really quite funny!

I also like the way the advisor on the left started scribbling out his notes furiously after Simon's fall.

There's a lot of those. There was one girl in S3 who spent the whole time Treguard took to comment on their demise and DISMISS them violently attacking her clipboard with the pencil, as if somehow it had caused their premature doom.I also like the way the advisor on the left started scribbling out his notes furiously after Simon's fall.
