"Oooooo nasty" Does That Phrase Make You

Post by HStorm »

...yawn?

Already I can hear the knives coming out, ready to be thrust deep into my back...

Like most of us, I used to love Treguard's most famous line. How we always loved the gruesome moment of death, with blood flying, resonant chimes of a death knell, an electronic skull falling to bits, and all rounded off with Hugo Myatt's sinister tones.... "Ooooooo nasty!"

Truth is, it makes me yawn these days. There was a time when he was doing it on instinct, and it worked, sounded like he was being both accurate and understated.

But by S8 he was doing it every time, very deliberately, very consciously, and at times forcing it into the scene where it didn't feel very natural. I get bored with it, I really do.

I wish he'd have thrown in a few more of his disingenuous, "Oh dear, what a pity, never mind" sneers, just to vary it a bit.

Your thoughts everyone? (Please skip over the "I hate you and hope you die in horrified torment for daring to say such blasphemy, Storm!" thoughts as they kind of go without saying.)

;D Well I see where you are coming from but I have never watched all series in short succession and I don't think I got bored watching it. My signature should indicate that I approve of the ooh nasty...

True because of the breakes between the series showing on CITV he phrase never lost its powerful effect.

To me at least.

Who said I counted it?   ;D

I was only asking to get a reaction to be honest, but it's still true, he frequently sounds like he's forcing the line in very deliberately in the last couple of seasons.

No, no, no! I mean what's worse than going through every death waiting for Treguard for someone to say "Ooooh Nasty"

Oh there are many worse things than that. I quite ENJOY watching the deaths. Compensates for the irritation of a recycled one-liner rather nicely. *PSYCHOPATHIC SMILE.*

The deaths are probably the most tense thing in Knightmare or when a dungeoneer is in severe danger...

All it did toward the end was make a teams mistake official. Even then, I KNEW when they had missed something. No room exists for absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

Hence, when nothing happened, its just a case of when and where and how they would be killed off (used to hate it when they left it to hang over different episodes).

"OooooooooH Naaaaasty....     NEXT!!!"
There are but 2 rules in this realm:-
1) He who sees first is the winner...
2) He who is seen first is toast...

I hate you and hope you die in horrified torment for daring to say such blasphemy! *throws knives*

Um, in seriousness, it is a fair case to make, the longer the show went on, and if there weren't fresh things to compensate. Personally, I still enjoyed hearing it. It helps, of course, when the deaths themseves are interesting and original, so the main focus doesn't have to be on Treguard's line.
