Redemption by mis-association

This is a tricky question but an interesting one...

Which characters get on your nerves, but in your eyes are slightly redeemed by not being quite as awful as other characters who filled their role previously/afterwards?

For instance, Mellisandre usually annoyed me but she was nowhere near as awful as her predecessor, Gretal. Equally, Gumboil's drunken rantings could get irritating, but at least he was more interesting than Raptor etc.
