Portal sounds
This is a pretty superficial question I guess, but which of the portal sound effects did you like best? Did you prefer the hollow roar and distant clang of the cell door closing from the first two seasons, the shrill whistle of seasons 3 to 5, or the clanging, clattering shriek of the last three seasons?
My preference was the whistle from 3 to 5. The roar from the first two seasons made me feel like my ears were flooded with wet cotton, and the shriek from the last three made my head hurt.

Re:Portal sounds
I was waiting for someone to ask this question...
I must say, I like the series 3 (with the clank of the door) sound effect, equally so the s6-8 one. The former sounds like going through a drafty dungeon door, whilst the latter sounds like a mystical teleporter.

Re:Portal sounds
The sounds weren't quite like that...
Series 1 and 2 had a whoose of air. Series 3-5 had a higher-pitched whoosh (with series 3 also having a zoom-in and sound of the door closing). Series 6-8 had some strange effect - possibly a highly-processed thunderbolt.
I think I like series 3's the best.

Re:Portal sounds
I shall have to wait until June 7 to find out what the early one sounded like. I can't remember.
The later series sounded more magical, as though the dungeoneer was being whisked away, but I loved the clanking of series three. The idea of onward and downward, no turning back seemed re-inforced by doors slamming shut behind them.

I like my telly scary, and very dungeonish.

Re:Portal sounds
I like the door-slamming sound from S3 the best, felt more....dungeon orientated.

Re:Portal sounds
I don't like the look of portals when they are outside the dungeon, they look really out of place, I prefered elve paths. It helped when the portal was in a tree or a hovel, but they looked a bit stupid there in the middle of the forest.
Here's a question how come they only ever used elf paths on 2 quests in series 4?
Sorry for going off topic

Re:Portal sounds
As far as I know, the territories in other seasons had never been occupied by the elves, so they never built any elf-paths in them.
