Forum Problems?

Post by Illusion »

If anyone is having any problems accessing or logging in to this forum, please let me know here, or send me an e-mail: info@knightmare.clara.net

Has anyone been having the problem of the forum 'forgetting' you every time you click on another page or try to post, even after you have re-logged in?

Thanks

Hmm, I have to say I'm not exactly certain what you're referring to, but anyway-

Sometimes when I try to post it just logs me out for no apparent reason. Sometime it gives me various spurious messages (without sending my post) and then won't back up so I can retrieve my post. Which is highly annoying when you've just written a lot.

Sometimes (when logged in) when I click on another page it just refuses to recognise it. But it'll load other pages really easily. Usually it's one or other of the forum sections that it just won't load. Sometimes logging in again helps, sometimes not.

I know some people have had much worse problems than me. (To be honest, it usually works fine for me, and any problems are just niggles.) Some people have told me how there are certain days when they just can't get here at all, which seems pretty strange, considering others can do so.

The only other minor little thing I've noticed is that when you've written a message and go to the "preview" option, for some reason the forum adds an extra blank line where you've already placed one. So if you don't notice, it adds really big spaces, which just looks strange. As far as I can remember, it didn't do so until a month or so ago.

I hope that helps just a little. If there's something you have in mind, perhaps you could be more specific?

Yes, the problem you mention of the forum logging you out when you try to post is what I have in mind. I've had this problem myself, but not recently.

The forum software was upgraded about two months ago which maybe explains where the preview spacing problem started. I expect that is a bug in the software... will check to see if there is a fix.

This happened to me just this minute - I came into the forum and discovered I had to log on, even though I'd checked the box for it to remember me every time I visited.  Initially I thought it might be something to do with the internet History folder, before I saw this.

I've experienced some problems here on the forum hence why I haven't posted much in recent times.

Quite surprised when I found out I was still one of the "Top 15 posters" actually....

Illusion, would it be possible to put a link to the backup forum somewhere fairly obvious? Until recently it was in the knews banner, but the new(ish) maintenance message means that there's no link I can see from this forum. If people are having problems posting here, as well as notifying you of their problems, they might value having the link so they can continue posting elsewhere until everything's sorted.

Just a thought. :)

Yup, the link will be put back today. I had to remove it temporarily as there wasn't enough room for both messages.

Thanks.

Did anyone else have any problems getting onto the forum last night?

Everytime I tried to get onto the forum I kept getting This page cannot be displayed. I thought that it might have been to do with me downloading some things yesterday, which might have adjusted my browser and it's settings!

Yes there were problems last night and today. If you have problems accessing it in the future it is most likely the fault of the this forum and not your end.

As I've said before, the server is crap and nothing can be done about it.

There is still the backup forum, if anyone forgets. I have got the address saved in my browser so I can still view it even when the main forum is down

Illusion - sometimes your knightmare.info address just doesn't work, but most of the time, it does... meh.

Is anyone having problems getting onto the forum today, if so your not the only one. I think that the server is being a bit temperamental as usual

Does anyone other than myself still view the backup forum? or am I the only one?

(sorry it's taken me so long - I've only just come back across it!)

It's just sometimes when I try to enter this forum, a message "This page cannot be diplayed" occasionally comes up, and when I do enter this forum it is still excrutiangly slow to load
