The Gatekeeper

By Keith McDonald

The Gatekeeper guards the gate at the end of Levels 1 and 2 during the fifth series of Knightmare.

The Gatemaster guarded the gate at the end of Level 1 or 2 and decided who should be allowed to travel.

I serve neither the Powers that Be, nor the Opposition.

Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper's physical presence and booming voice gave him strong authority. Though he was not aligned to either side, he did not impede dungeoneers from passing.

Nor did he allow Opposition forces to attack on his ground. On one occasion, he dismisses Sylvester Hands and forbids him from following for four hours.

The gatekeeper, as played by Michael Cule in Series 5 of Knightmare (1991).

In his final appearance, he bellows at Skarkill's hobgoblin, Tiny, and blasts it with his staff.

The Gatekeeper might also issue instructions about the upcoming mode of travel. This may be a clue to the number of levels to travel in the Descender, or a landing command for Smirkenorff the Dragon.
