Series 5, Quest 1. Hordriss makes Kathryn wait for his attention.

Series 5 Quest 1

Team 1: Kathryn, Raelene, Fay and Alison from Liphook.

The first quest of Series 5 was for the Cup and lasted 21 minutes.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn, the dungeoneer.


Pickle labels them the 'bee team', as all four are dressed in yellow and black.

Treguard: "This is a strange land and getting stranger than you can ever imagine."

Level 1

Kathryn begins on a ledge leading to a dragon. It's the first flight on Smirkenorff.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn walks onto the back of Smirkenorff, the new dragon.

Treguard: "I think this is the equivalent of what you would call an international departure lounge, and the next flight is leaving shortly."

Smirkenorff flies over a stretch of water and ascends towards a castle on a hilltop.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Smirkenorff lands by a castle.

Kathryn proceeds through a glade towards a shack. The monk, Brother Mace, is playing cards with a beggar, whom he introduces as Sylvester Hands.

Brother Mace: "I wouldn't say that Sly here is a thief, but I wouldn't play cards against him if God wasn't on my side."

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Brother Mace is playing cards with a beggar, Sylvester Hands.

Mace provides information about the path ahead. He asks Kathryn to deliver some gold to Julius Scaramonger - "A merchant by trade and scoundrel by religion."

Kathryn arrives in Wolfenden and encounters Scaramonger.

Julius Scaramonger: "Poverty is just the sin of ignorance, if the truth be told, and Julius Scaramonger couldn't tell anything but."

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn encounters a new trader, Julius Scaramonger.

Scaramonger swaps the gold for a spyglass and directs Kathryn towards the gateway.

Spyglass: A man is remonstrating with frightknights, which pass in sequence behind him.

Treguard: "This, unless I'm much mistaken, is the Opposition."

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. A first glimpse of Lord Fear through a spyglass.

He catches Kathryn spying and threatens her. She throws down the glass to break the connection.

Pickle complains that the game has become increasingly dangerous.

That 'gentleman' we just encountered at long range is Lord Fear... No time to linger, I think.


Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn encounters Gwendoline the Greenwarden in the Greenwood.

Kathryn arrives at a clearing. A wardress enters, introducing herself as Gwendoline the Greenwarden.

Gwendoline: "The Powers that Be have tasked me to stop the spoilers and root out ignorance."

The team answer a riddle and earn a password.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. A wall forms into a blocker in front of Kathryn.

In the next chamber, a wall advances to block the doorway. The password makes the wall vanish.

Kathryn emerges into a mechanical elevator, which unnerves Pickle again.

Treguard: "It may be mechanical, but it's also spellbound."

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn takes the descender to Level 2.

Kathryn asks it to move, and it takes her down to Level 2.

Level 2

The Eye Shield leads up a flight of stairs and across a corridor.

Hordriss the Confuser is sat in a large chamber, having reached the status of Wizard of the First Level.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn meets the newly promoted Hordriss the Confuser in Level 2.

Since the recent, if belated, recognition of one's true worth, one has been simply overwhelmed with appointments.


The team agree to retrieve a bone for Hordriss. In return, he gives Kathryn a box containing a pixie.

Hordriss: "Do not let her out until you encounter Opposition forces."

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn releases a pixie to scare off the goblin master.

In a large chamber, Kathryn encounters two goblins and a guard. She releases Pixel, who fends off the goblin master.

The pixie seeks some recognition for her efforts, then offers to accompany Kathryn for more fun.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn faces a causeway of tiles bearing symbols of attack and defence.

The team arrive at a floor puzzle made up of knightly symbols.

After a pause, the pixie offers some advice from the box: "don't be offensive".


The team progress well through the puzzle, but Kathryn takes a step too many and falls to her doom.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 1. Kathryn side-steps off the edge of the causeway.

Treguard: "A slip for Kathryn, team, so the rest of you must fall with her."

I stumbled across this site today, after having a big nostalgia attack, and just wanted to say congratulations - it looks great!

I was a member of the first team of Series 5 (the 'Bee' team, as I recall, for fairly obvious reasons if you look at our cute matching outfits!) and, although it's nearly nine years since my team was on, I remember a lot about being on the show.
