Gwendoline the Greenwarden

By Keith McDonald

Knightmare's 'female Robin Hood'. Gwendoline the Greenwarden was dedicated to protecting the Greenwood and its creatures.

Gwendoline serves the Powers that Be. She protects the Greenwood and its environment.

She could offer passwords and advice in exchange for correct answers to questions.

The Powers that Be have tasked me to stop the spoilers and root out ignorance.

Gwendoline

Knightmare Series 5 Team 3. Sarah is quizzed by Gwendoline the Greenwarden.

A female Robin Hood

With her bow and arrow, Gwendoline kept the forests clear of poachers, hunters and vermin. Look-In magazine describes her as 'a sort-of female Robin Hood'.

Gwendoline met most teams in Series 5, either in Wolfglade or the Greenwood clearings.

Teams often had to talk themselves out of an awkward situation. They might have raised an alarm or been implicated by a poacher such as Julius Scaramonger.

Dungeoneers either had to help her identify an offender or prove their innocence another way.

Knightmare Series 5 Team 6. Alex faces Gwendoline the Greenwarden.

Source of knowledge

Gwendoline could be helpful, once she was convinced the dungeoneer wasn't a threat to the forest. She regularly gave out passwords or a token for the Gatemaster, which irritated Lord Fear.

She was also excellent protection. Characters she shot or threatened to shoot included assassins, goblins, Skarkill, Scaramonger and Sylvester Hands.

But Gwendoline was not completely infallible.

She was unable to tell a real dungeoneer from a disguised Sylvester Hands. She sets a test to tell them apart. She is then "rescued" (kicking and screaming) by the bumbling do-gooder Sir Hugh de Wittless.
