The twelfth and final quest of Series 3 for the Shield was abandoned after 25 minutes.
Treguard: "We must hurry, for the time of challenge is fast fading."
The turnaround in teams is achieved in about a minute, which is remarkably fast.
From the Dice Room, the team follows the path of the Shield.
On the ridge, Chris must interrupt Hordriss the Confuser to get past.
The warlock is irritated, but becomes intrigued when Chris shows him respect.
The team agrees to collect an hourglass for him. He offers a SPEED spell in return.
A rare sight of Mildread's room from Series 2. A sheet marked 'herbs' lies near the cauldron.
Treguard: "Many actions are possible. Many more are plausible. What's unforgiveable is inaction and indecision."
It's a trap. Chris places the herbs in the cauldron, but ghosts begin appearing.
The Level 1 clue room is guarded by Brangwen (score: 2). She reveals the 'first step'.
Chris takes an hourglass and a bone, leaving behind a red gem.
Grimwold the Ogre chases Chris along the dwarf tunnel. The team use the SPEED spell to outpace him.
In the Banburn marshes, Chris gets trapped between two bands of goblins and must escape into the cave (the only dungeoneer to do so).
It's the Corridor of the Catacombs, where yet more goblins lie in wait.
The exit leads back to the Vale, where Hordriss is waiting. Chris returns his hourglass.
A pair of goblins enter in chase, causing Treguard to raise the alarm. However, the warlock silences him for a moment of glory.
One hesitates to boast, but one is quite capable of coping with such minor blemishes. Scarabus BEHEST!
He unleashes a magic sword at the goblins, which flee in terror. The smug Hordriss provides the 'second step'.
Hordriss: "You are, of course, in my debt. But then, who is not?"
The view of the next room is obscured by letters. The team need to spell SHIELD to see the exits.
Mrs Grimwold is in the wellway room. She hurls the bone at Festus, then chases after him. She continues to shriek as Chris descends to Level 2. (And we never see her again!)
Chris lands in the Mills of Doom, where he is chased across the dials by a skull.
Straight into Merlin's chamber, where they evoke the steps. (One of the advisors makes a strange hand gesture at Merlin!)
They answer both riddles correctly and earn a FLIGHT spell.
Merlin: "Use it wisely, and use it once."
The sound effects in the dwarf tunnel indicate that the dungeon is beginning to wind down.
