As you may have seen on the website's 2020 Events page, the newest remix of the Knightmare theme tune is by Anders Enger Jensen a.k.a. EOX Studios. It's on YouTube here where there are also links to Bandcamp and SoundCloud. The ideal musical accompaniment to browsing the new website. Unless you're browsing for more than 4 minutes 25, in which case you might find my YouTube playlist of Knightmare theme covers & remixes useful.

Thanks for that David. Much appreciated. Many happy returns indeed. I was just happening to think this morning that today is Monday September 7th, which was the date when Knightmare was first shown 33 years ago (series 1 & 2 of course being shown on Monday afternoons instead of Fridays).

That's well-written and very reminiscent of the gamebooks, specifically the first one. Nice find! I died three times before managing to finish it.

Hi, Steve. Thank you for joining the forum. I'm sorry your post got overlooked until now. One or two people have created their own Knightmare Top Trumps over the years (here's one, not to mention the official set that appeared in The Quest newsletter) and I'm glad you've had a go and enjoyed it. I identify with being a long term Knightmare fan and wanting to do something more creative than simply being a watcher. My understanding is that if your Top Trumps are for personal use and not for profit, you wouldn't need to worry about image right permisson. If fellow forum members with superior law knowledge could confirm this or correct me, please do.

As some of you already know, I've been getting back into creating some form of interactive Knightmare game, but as my journey progresses, things are never as simple as they first appear. Aside from the reconstruction of the various rooms and puzzles featured throughout the show, there is also the task of programming them- not just to behave exactly how they did on screen, but to be fully functional in a free, user-controlled environment. Watching back through the episodes, many of the puzzles were dictated with a little help from Treguard with no use and abuse from the teams- they just got on and performed the task required in order to succeed- or fail. This is particularly true with the Trial by Spikes in the way that NOBODY cheated the puzzle. When you look at it- a skilled, sighted dungeoneer could take one look at the spikes and notice a clear run straight to the door between the 4th and 5th tiles. Now, imagine yourself viewing that same room on a computer screen with the ability to control the dungeoneer directly using the arrow keys... Tempting isn't it...? This presents a problem to me as a game programmer to have to find a way to intervene in order to prevent this little cheat from being undertaken. Another way to avoid the puzzle would be to step back a row and wait for the next row of spikes to come up, thus, revealing the correct clear square. The latter I have almost cured- if the user steps back from the desired row, no spikes will emerge until that user stands in the correct row. But what if they happen to be standing BETWEEN the spikes..? You see- not as simple as it sounds is it?! This is just one of the many puzzles I have yet to solve on my 'quest', but not one I can cheat my way out of...

Here is mine: Pooka Plush.jpg Made out of a sponge and some old overalls in 2006! Quite where it disappeared to I will never know... Probably haunting some poor dungeoneer in the textile bin in the sky... [image: Pooka Plush.jpg]

Further applause for Billy here! Well done, it's a great tribute to a great show and now sadly Mr Parsons himself. I particularly enjoyed Pickle getting his name given wrong yet again and Treguards best laconic wit distilled appropiately.

I must admit, it was a damn shame seeing the KMRPG nose dive like it did. Though you're quite right in saying the majority of us only have ourselves to blame for it doing so! I must admit, I think back to many of my own mistakes during the filming sessions I attended and cringe. "Collie cam" during what should have been static SFX shots. Lighting that makes the chromakey effect difficult, if not impossible, to actually pull off. There are probably many others that I've forgotten about. I MIGHT have some of the old footage laying around. Though it will have survived multiple HDD failures if I do. As such, I'd love to get a copy of what you have, so I can refill a few gaps here and there. There's also the fact that technology has come a noticeable distance since we did the original filming. Shotcut ( https://shotcut.org/ )allowing for basic chromakey effects without the complicated multi-masking of old for example. There's even the possibility of doing basic things within OBS ( https://obsproject.com/ ). Opening the tantalising chance of doing Knightmare the same way we originally saw it. Live... THAT would require a lot of work and pre-planning to pull off though. Given our previous history, I'm not sure if the KM community would be up for such a production.

would be amazing to see another go at a knightmare game given that other project seams to have gone dead sadly or even a reupload of a elderly one would not harm anybody at all.

We've had a lot of fun making the series over the past 8 years, but what do I really think of it? Find out now in Jake's Throwback Reviews! Episode: Specials 2, Episode 4 Original Release Date: 24th December 2017 Throwback Review Date: 22nd February 2018 Score: 5 out of 5 (brilliant) The Good: This final special in the batch certainly manages to live up to the high standards of the first three. As I said in my original review, the part of Carina really is an excellent showcase for Roz Pearson as a voice actor, and I love the pleasingly varied, carefully crafted Knightmare homage as much as ever. The (Not Really) Bad: Level 1 is rather linear and possibly a bit short. After Charlie said "Stay!" at the end of the Corridor of Blades sequence, there should have been one more blade sound effect. Conclusion: It's the end of an era, but it certainly goes out on a high.

We've had a lot of fun making the series over the past 8 years, but what do I really think of it? Find out now in Jake's Throwback Reviews! Episode: Specials 2, Episode 3 Original Release Date: 24th June 2017 Throwback Review Date: 21st February 2018 Score: 5 out of 5 (brilliant) The Good: I've been enjoying listening to this batch of specials a great deal, but I think this one is actually my favourite of the four. The Knightmare homage is top-notch throughout and I laughed in several places. The team members all sound absolutely excellent, particularly Antony Rowe's marvellous piece of method acting as Finton and Melissa Chatterton's superb debut as Olivia. The build-up to Lord Fear's reappearance (with Lissard as harbinger) remains rather striking, which is good. The (Not Really) Bad: I find the background ambience ever so slightly excessive in a couple of places, but that really is the only thing I can think of to put in this section. Conclusion: It doesn't get any better than this, which is by no means a bad thing in this case.

Episode: Specials 2, Episode 2 Original Release Date: 24th December 2016 Throwback Review Date: 20th February 2018 Score: 5 out of 5 (brilliant) The Good: Again, I completely stand by my original comments about this episode – the fresh, carefully crafted Knightmare homage just keeps coming, from turning the old Wolfenden marketplace sequence on its head, to adapting Lord Fear's dress-up-as-Brother-Strange plan, to crafting a victory sequence based on Barry's unusual but memorable win. The (Not Really) Bad: I wonder if the Ariadne sound effect should have ended or changed somehow after she became trapped by the WEB spell. I wish I'd emphasised "pointless" to go with the compass comparison. Treguard is actually a little quieter in some places than in others, but I bet no one has ever noticed this. Conclusion: Another top-drawer special.

We've had a lot of fun making the series over the past 8 years, but what do I really think of it? Find out now in Jake's Throwback Reviews! Episode: Specials 2, Episode 1 Original Release Date: 24th June 2016 Throwback Review Date: 19th February 2018 Score: 5 out of 5 (brilliant) The Good: I stand by all the praise I heaped on this episode in my original review, including the brilliance of the voice work on Gary, Eric, Colin and Eamon, the effectiveness of the first appearances of Pixel and the Oracle, the carefully judged inclusion of a whole load of stuff from the Knightmare books, and the smooth transition from Pickle to Majida. Also, it's particularly amusing to hear the Oracle's ramblings after not having listened to the episode for a while, and the same is true of the whole pestle and mortar mispronunciation sequence. The (Not Really) Bad: As Gary bothers to answer Dooris after she's said her closing words, it would have been good to delay the drawbridge sound effect until after Gary's reply, so we could imagine that Dooris might have heard it before she disappeared. Of course it's very obliging of Aesandre and Calliban not to speak to each other until Gary and his advisors have quite finished their exchange at the start of the first spyglass sequence, but I still feel that this small contrivance is fully justified artistically. Conclusion: Excellent stuff, well conceived and skilfully realised.
