Having finally lost my patience with KiwiIRC, I've changed the widget for Knightmare chat to a locally hosted version. It should, therefore, be less prone to going down. You can access it at: https://www.knightmare.com:9000/ Obviously, the preferred method of access remains a proper IRC client.

Just a gentle reminder about two of our requests to all forum users as noted in the http://www.knightmare.com/forum/39/4395 rules: Start a new thread wherever possible Why? Statistically your post will get more attention if it's a new thread rather than a response to a previous post. It's more user friendly because it doesn't require people to reread the entire thread. It's more newbie friendly, because people are more likely to find specific things they're looking for and finally it helps our search engine ranking (google favours more threads over bigger threads). Rule of thumb: Unless you are responding to a previous post in a thread, start a new thread. Post news stories to the main site, not in the forum Why? The main site receives more than x10 the traffic of the forum (in some months, this has been as much as x100). The articles on the main site get picked up by news agencies/aggregators and so on, which drives traffic to the site (and therefore the forum) whereas this is not true of posts in the forum. If your news story relates to an actor's latest project, this is significantly more helpful to them than a post in a forum. Important stories automatically get crossposted to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets where they get even more attention. Additionally, posting to the main site should cause a thread to be automatically created in the forum anyway (although this may not have been happening?). In short. It's a significant help to the community. I know the article submission page is a bit of a bugger. We're just around the corner from a software/site update and I plan to tackle this as part of that upgrade. In the meantime, if you find yourself unable to use the form, at least send us a PM pointing to your new thread and asking for it to be turned into an article or (better) email or PM your article to us.

How about green? On Knightmare, green is a superior colour. It's also the one that comes after gold in Karma Chameleon. And emerald comes between gold and diamond anniversaries.

Yeah in light of what was written in the article, made me annoyed how he could write something like that. Tasteless is putting it lightly.

Medals were not correctly displaying in the thread views. In particular, the incorrect 'level' for each medal was not being correctly shown. This is now fixed. Links have been configured to use the standard link colour, except for links in signatures which are white.

An update has been made to the forum rules. In particular, requesting or soliciting copyright material is now specifically against the rules. As always, the latest rules can be found here

Howdy all, We seem to be getting a large month-on-month increase in traffic to knightmare.com. As of July, we're looking at an average of about 45k hits per day at the site, covering about 2200 unique visitors per day. Compared to June alone, that's an increase of about 17%. I haven't been able to locate the source of the increase. We're getting approximately the same percentage of visitors via google, facebook and wikipedia as before. However, I suspect this might be as a result of Knightmare Live coupled with repeats on Challenge. If you see that we've suddenly been advertised somewhere new, do please let me know

I know lately the only way I can get to KM chat is via Mibbit. I used to go through interactive Knightmare and use one of the clients but that doesn't work for me now.

Curiously, I've had more names suggested to me than actual volunteers. Sadly, I can't really accept suggestions. If someone won't put their hand up of their own volition, I can't really accept them. In any case, I'll delete this post after a couple more days.

Oh dear. It looks like the newer version of Joomla now limits the size of a category description to 5120 characters. It's not clear whether the developers have any intention of changing this or not. And of course, Joomla doesn't warn you if you've exceeded the character limit and no mention of this limit is made within the upgrade process <sigh>. I'll need to see if I can find some answers It would appear that the character limits that caused cut-off category pages are no longer in force, meaning that content can be readded as the Webmaster and Publisher see fit. The Series 5 and Series 8 category pages seem to be the ones in most urgent need, having lost significant quantities of both text and images. We can surely expect a surge in visitors (some from the media) to Knightmare.com over the next few weeks, and we want it to represent Knightmare and the fandom as well as possible. The coincidence of anniversaries, plus the cinematic return of Knightmare's godfather Tolkien to the limelight, makes this a very special Knightmare flag-waving opportunity that may never come again. If ever there were a time to get Knightmare.com looking its best, I would suggest that that time is now.

A good question. Firstly, a high post count is not indicative of a post being liked, for several possible reasons: The thread contains updates on an ongoing process mostly from one person (e.g. http://www.knightmare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2603) The thread acts as a running collection of related posts (e.g. http://www.knightmare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=818) The thread has spawned arguments or discussion (e.g. http://www.knightmare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2891) Additionally, even if a high post count was indicative of a post being liked, it would be impossible to determine which post in that thread was liked. It certainly might not be the first one. For example, there are a lot of replies to this thread on castle locations. But in my humble opinion, the best post in that thread is the one from Canadanne on 28 Feb 2011, which is about midway through that thread. It's certainly the only post in that thread to be thanked. Secondly, it's not easy to quickly tell how many posts in a thread are along the lines of "I'm glad you brought such and such". Nor is it easy to track to which post they refer. "Thank" (which really should be renamed to "Like") allows you to directly indicate that you like a particular post, regardless of where that post is located within a thread. It also allows you to independently mark your liking or disliking of multiple posts within a thread. So to answer your question, thanks show what posts are popular. Post counts only show how much activity is in the thread, which may or may not be related to whether it is liked or not.
