In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

Hugo has been known to make a few cameo appearances at Knightmare Live performances - both he and Mark Knight featured at the Leicester Square Theatre performance in November last year.

I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

I quite like them both actually. The skull costume was a great idea, and made Lord Fear look a bit more baddie like. However, I would probably at a pinch go with the first costume. Not much scared me more than Lord Fear when I was 9 years old except perhaps my teacher at the time. In fact, now I think of it, I never did see her and Aesandre in the same room together...

Was just interested to know how many of you saw the first ever episode when it first aired in 1987? That'd be me, at the relatively old age amongst people here (so it seems) of eight. You could say I found it essential viewing from then on. Then I moved schools and missed great chunks of series 3. D'oh!

In Series 1 and 2 of the Knightmare RPG, one of Adam's rules was that you only had enough manna to cast three spells during the quest, whcih made the choice of spells much more interesting.

I think series 6 was my favourite, purely for the dragon storyline throughout the season... although Series 7 with good ole Barry does up the year a knotch or two

What annoys me the most is the fact people are on ebay right now selling pirated copies of this stuff on dvd and raking the money in! There is a demand and I for one would rather own a proper legal/original dvd of this excellent show, the quality would be great and it would have pride of place in my dvd collection! Come on, the people who have the power to do this! get the ball rolling! a proper dvd would kick the ripp-off ebayers up the bum

I don't think it made many difference what quest someone was on. There wa a bit in series 4 when Merriss asked a dungeonere what their quest was, the dungeonere said the shild (I think) and Merriss replied with "if you had said the sword I would have been forced to destroy you." I reckon she'd have said the same thing about the shield if they'd have taken the sword, cup or crown.

Oakley had a son, called little acorn, do you think he'd have grown into a talking tree troll ent type thing or just a regular tree. He probably go eaten by a squiral before the end of series 4.

Interesting! I'd always thought that it was random! It also means that Team 1 were agonisingly close to getting the cup, being one room away from Lord Fear.

It is a good idea for such a page, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get round to doing one. Try searching the actor on the Internet Movie Database www.imdb.com which also contains appearances on TV shows.

Well... I think there's more about series 3 in your post the meets the eye, rather than a comment ref: the cup. In fact, I think series 3 was far too dependent on correct answers for anyone to win it - one failed riddle, and you're dead... And that is perhaps what I like about it, it is a real test, on top if it being (for me) the most imaginative dungeon in the series.

I think there may well have been a change in how they saw their potential audience throughout the entire run of Knightmare, ie. they were shooting for a younger age-group at the end than at the beginning. This idea seems to show in the lighter, more comic atmosphere KM had latterly, with serious characters like Lord Fear becoming humorous (although I don't actually mind that in the case of Mark Knight - there was a really good rapport with Cliff Barry, who played Lissard). But he wasn't the only one - Sylvester Hands was definitely a semi-threatening character when he was first introduced and then gradually just became comical. Also, Treguard in the first 2 or 3 series was on the side of the Dungeon and they certainly weren't providing any helpers for the teams, whereas later there was Pickle, then Majida. Perhaps after a win-free season (series 3) someone on the production team thought that extra assistance was a good idea. Not all of these changes were a bad thing, but it's certainly hard to compare series 1 or 2 with series 8 - and of course, the changes didn't actually create any more winners in the end anyway. So it probably looked easier (and sometimes less interesting) for us, but was no easier for the teams involved.
