In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

Hugo has been known to make a few cameo appearances at Knightmare Live performances - both he and Mark Knight featured at the Leicester Square Theatre performance in November last year.

I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

Or as Ah Wok would say 'A gleen dlagon meent'. Anyway, most of the time the red gem was the blood stone which only led to blood shed (although not a garden shed made of blood as I thought in my mis-spent youth (I was 7) ) ).  Shame no dungeoneer ever took the stone either, I really wanted to see this shed.  Otherwise the red gem was useless in most cases.

My favourite was the face. At least, joint favourites with the skeleton. I liked the face, and the way it always used to pop up and stuff. Nevertheless - I liked the skeleton, because it scared me to bits. Especially with the ominous clanks! I liked the idea of the cake, but it could have been used a lot more effectively. perhaps - one piece falling off (and being shown falling off) in every room, so the team need food every five rooms or so or else they run out of cake, and die? I like cake, if that helps. (sorry Alex)

It was probably just a colour cycling thing - all the computer colours are morphed into white.

Yes, it could have been Barry (though I don't remember too much about S7). Another name comes to mind - Matt, from the first quest of Series 6. He was brilliant at playing his part (after he shook hands with Sylvester, he wiped it off on his cloak. A great moment.)

Except my confusion, that is - I've just arrived back from a week away, having missed this entire "Malefact_" episode. Took me ages to work out what was going on.

I'm of the opposite view. Pickle really annoyed the hell out of me and my friend and we made up quite nasty nicknames for him and Treguard (I won't be repeating them, I'm a lot older and wiser now) but I myself had no problem with Majida, I quite liked her actually and thought she was a lot better than Pickle was. I concur, though I didn't really hate Pickle, I just preferred Majida. One of my friends absolutely despised him though. I always thought Majida had more character, and more of a backbone. And I agree that Majida was a lot more agressive, I always wanted to see her smacking particularly dense advisers with the staff...

When you think about it, it was either threat of death from Lord Fear himself or a communications blackout at the end of each spyglass scene. It was basically a way of ending each spyglass scene, otherwise some daft teams would sit staring at nothing for hours unless Treguard told them to put the damn thing down.

I cant wait to view this episode again soon on Challenge, many say it is one of the most hilarious bits on Knightmare in any series so I cant wait to have a good giggle watching this. Who are the 'many' you speak of?

Malefact did get the pretty much exact quote there. I have 'returned' after a fashion too, been University-ing in the last week, I am not back regularly but hopefully can post a bit more now, been snowed under with work, RPG related matters and erm.....snow!

Well, not the dungeoneer's actual face - just an image of it used as the new Life Force Clock.

I didn't know they even had VR goggles in 1993! I thought that after the spell was cast, they cut, showed the dungeoneer a monitor with the room in it, then put him/her back and continued filming.....er, yes!

I played the Amiga version of Knightmare, I was very disappointed with it - it's like Eye of the Beholder, but with the inspired feature that you lose health if you walk into a wall. I do have some programming knowledge (if you count using MMFusion as 'real' programming), but a Knightmare game would never really work as the point was that the advisors didn't have direct control over the game - it was about the ability of the dungeoneer to be guided as much as the advisors to guide.
