    In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

    Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

    Hugo has been known to make a few cameo appearances at Knightmare Live performances - both he and Mark Knight featured at the Leicester Square Theatre performance in November last year.

    I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

    Hey, I've just realised you were a contestant! I will have to do some screens from team 8! LOL That would be great to see, Grandizzy. Thirty years next year; Tempus fugit ... May I ask a question about the filming, which I've always wondered? I presume there were lots of breaks in the shooting while the production crew prepared sets etc. I was wondering how often filming would be stopped, and roughly what was the ratio of break time to actual filming? And what happened during the breaks? Did Hugo keep silent/leave the set? Good question, Grandizzy. Actually, we left the set! We lived in a green room for most of the time, with series 3 and a computer for entertainment. Sometimes we went shopping, or to the cinema of an evening to watch Back to the Future III. Once I saw Hugo enjoying a pipe in a side room. How long between filming for series 4? About an hour, give or take 30 mins or so I would say. There were very short breaks if an eye shield sequence was attached to a location, and some latter sequences were recorded virtually back-to-back (the three river crossing shots and the three Falling Bridge/Valley of Decision shots). The longest break was probably before Ariadne's lair, not least because we had a Fire Drill to delay things (and tricky for Paul Valentine to get right in rehearsal, I would imagine). Merry Christmas to everyone reading this on Christmas Eve!

    Then of course we have Harris aka Lord Fear dressed as Hordriss dressed as a beggar in series 6! That also sticks in the mind somewhat!

    Having been around for most of that time myself I do know that history already. Where've you been hiding yourself since late last year anyhow, any more away and Hugo's catchphrase will become rather apt on your next visit

    Hadn't even given it a thought until now. The occasion just passed me by. It's an American thing isn't it. Not really celebrated in the UK, not sure of the origins of it all. It's where something repeats itself over and over. If I had my way that would be Knightmare on television every day of the year.

    Characters you wish they had played

    I was actually thinking about something similar a few days ago. I was mulling over who could have played some characters from the Knightmare books. I felt the baddie from the very first book, the Gruagach, would have been a fine addition to the show. I recall he was described as having sharp features, so I reckon Lawrence Werber would have been a good fit. He could have used the drawling voice he used for the Dragon, but with a hint of Cedric thrown in. I've always thought that the evil elf king, Arawn, would have been an excellent alternative villain. Given that the second book coincided with series three, I initially thought of Tom Karol. However, I think Paul Valentine would have been perfect in the role . Plus, it would have been interesting to see Paul play a straight baddie.

    [15th anniversary post] I've caught only one session of the RPG so far but I enjoyed it. It was fun to be a watcher again and also to discuss the quest afterwards (what could/should have happened), not unlike our discussions of the TV series. 'RPG', though, seems as much of a misnomer as it was originally. I wonder if there's a better name for it. Knightmare Text Adventure is perhaps a bit too functional.

    Thanks, Brett. Even if the crumbling bridge had been in Series 3 and 4, I'm not sure it would have fitted your statement, which also referred to Series 5. Beyond graphics, that also applies to the revolving disc which served as the spindizzy in Series 3 and the Place of Choice roundabout in Series 4 but wasn't in Series 5. Actually I have a question about that. I'll start a new topic.

    An eyeshield sequence with a pooka in it. Yes, in Series 5. It just popped up for a moment and disappeared again, and nobody commented on it. It's worth adding that the end credits of some Series 4 episodes (5, 6, 8, 14) included a wooded path where the spirit appeared: Series 4 end credits.jpg It's a shame they weren't used in Series 4 eyeshield sequences. They could have been an obstruction which the team has to get rid of with a horn or spell. They weren't given a name in Series 4 and 5. Here are a few suggestions: woodland spirits (because they were sometimes found at the inn); Dunnheads; foflos (forest floaters); proto-pookas. Pickle or Majida sneaking food into the napsack. Pickle tried to sneak a banana in there during Series 4. It was before the first quest. Two quests later, Treguard was still checking the knapsack for contraband. He even checked inside the helmet.     I had noticed he changed from blue to green, but put it down to the usual colour changes between series (series 4 being purple, series 6 being orange, and series 7 being natural colours).

    You only get out what you put in to be honest. As a long standing (dis)respectable community member I can say that with feeling. You have to either make things happen or participate when opportunities arise - take a look at the Midhunt Hunt games we've tested across the country - they don't appear overnight and take considerable planning but if not enough volunteers come forward then the results aren't tarnished but are certainly diminished. If you can't directly participate thats fine but not even bothering to respond seems to be prevalent all too much these days. There are other easier ways to get involved tho - you can review episodes, characters and even submit articles for us all to share. That said I'm glad to have participated in a variety of ways over the years and count some people I've met in this time doing so as very important to me indeed. Knightmare and it's legacy will not be forgotten but its' flame can only be kept alive by actions and words...here's to another 30 everyone.

    Perhaps. But in view of the various restrictions regarding what we can actually do (keeping in mind time, complexity, and so on), I think doing something else would have a bigger draw.
