    In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

    Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

    Hugo has been known to make a few cameo appearances at Knightmare Live performances - both he and Mark Knight featured at the Leicester Square Theatre performance in November last year.

    I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

    I would be honoured to put my ideas to Tim Child to help bring Knightmare back. I don't know about Tim, but this forum's Knightmare à la Maison section is a great place to share ideas for any future series.

    I like the Anvil one when its cast. Just saw a clip of it in action. Funny little thing. Roaring around laughing yet feeling like you want to hug the poor guard that's just been hit on the head at the same time. [hugs poor guard that just woken up from being hit on the head.] Question...... Would the spell Create be the opposite of Destroy? Or would it be Restore that countered Destroy? Or would they both work? Which one would save someone from death? I think Create would create life but unsure if it could be used to save someone who was dying. Dreamt up Destroy in a cool dream last night. Lord Fear tried to cast it on Treguard. Had to spellcast Freeze on Lord Fear which Lizzard dispelled then Lord Fear tried to spellcast destroy again then quickly spellcast Opposite to deal with the spell before Lord Fear finished casting it and save Treguard. It worked. Phew. Was only told about Create and Restore after saving Treguard. Was told in the dream Create might have certain side effects in its use. Side effects not told as Treguard point blank refused to tell me them. Do any spells have long term side effects after being cast in Knightmare? I know Create did in my dream.

    Knightmare adverts on CITV

    Back to the original topic, I don't recall any adverts for Knightmare on CITV (I recall the ones on Sci-Fi and Challenge, which involved a man with a bin on his head!), so I'd like to see these as well. I still have an advert for CITV itself featuring Lissard from Knightmare (and many other programmes of the time) from 1993 - here's an MPEG if you want it (David, Alan, Keith - by all means add this to the site if you can) - it's not really an advert for KM, but nevertheless...!

    I can only remember the giant making one appearance (not to be confused with the giant troll) Who's "the giant" ? The Giant appeared TWICE in Knightmare - on both occasions in the first level of Season 1, during Simon's and Helen's quests.

    I don't know if these were already reported / discussed at the time, but I came across some old mentions of Knightmare in articles on UKGameshows.com: http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/2002_Poll Knightmare was voted the 6th best gameshow of all time in an August 2002 poll. It was the only children's show in the Top 50. http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/All-time_Poll http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/All_Time_Top_30_Hosts Knightmare dropped one place to 7th when the poll was repeated in 2006, basically due to the recent arrival of Deal Or No Deal, although Blockbusters also pipped it this time after charging up the chart. Hugo Myatt sneaked into the all-time Top 30 gameshow hosts poll, too. http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/Gameshow_General_Election_2010 Knightmare remained at No.7 when the poll was conducted again in May 2010! And Hugo Myatt climbed one place to No.29. (There doesn't seem to have been a poll in 2014.)

    Always find it better viewing when dark outside. Now you could fit that into 10pm in July or 5pm in January, but given the choice (and ideally) would like the show to be featured around 9pm on a weekend. (autumn / winter months preferably) It's current slot of 10am on Sundays is once again problematic. It's invariably not possible for me to tune in at this specific time of the week (due to other obligations) so more often than not, I miss the actual 'live' episodes and have to search through Youtube for relevant material. (as someone else believe pointed out, it's simply not the same as watching in 'real time' on a standard TV set.) We say it every time, but you have to believe one day the series will be available to purchase on DVD format. It would solve so many issues as well as eradicate any of the aforementioned difficulties. TOTALLY agree with all that you said. Such a darn shame we can't get a DVD release. It would be perfect. A big screen and knightmare at a suitably chilling time. I enjoyed Challenge series one n two repeats in 2013 as they were on the Friday late slot at 10.30.

    Love Sylvester the Jester, huge highlight of Geek Week for me. He's a work in progress and needs more time to find his feet..the character is quite the finished product. Sadly we'll never see him again.

    Thank you for finding this, Annie. I emailed Natasha but she hasn't replied. It was her birthday last Sunday. She's a single day older than Doctor Who, born on a trivia nexus of a date (as Only Connect reminded us this week). Perhaps she watched herself on Challenge.

    This is a cracking description of the show. It perfectly captures the way I feel about Knightmare - how it's even better watching it as an adult, and all the brilliant tricks they use to induce real dread in the viewer.

    Haha XD always flattered to be recognised my good man. I think it was brilliant that we finally get to hear from Paul after all these years and it strikes me that he still maintains interest in his roles, especially when it comes to the Geek Week Special. I do honestly think they should've at least given him a bell and asked him if he just wanted to star for the role one for the road as it were. A lot of people found his role as Fidjit a bit pointless in season seven, but on the other hand it gave way for a fresh idea (even though it didn't work) and also gave an explanation to Motley's rather sudden disappearance in the following series And as for his comment about the one off being "a shame" is reasonably understandable. Don't get me wrong though, I'll take anything than nothing If they (somehow) go for a new series they'd have to take what bits worked well and incorporate it into something new

    That's a very good way of looking at it chap Back then at least kids we're perfectly capable of talking to adults properly so it does bug me when programmes tend to go all "coochy coo" and insult their intelligence

There's a photo of (presumably) Richard in his all-blue 'C/K guardian' garb in this magazine article: one of the earliest about Knightmare.

    the best ooh nasty was probably imo the one wherethe drenaught caught sumaya!!! Having discussed this with Dave recently, I'm inclined to agree. The way Treguard has to look away; the drawn-out n of nasty; how the shot includes the advisors too, for whom Treguard's catchphrase seems to serve the genuine purpose of telling them that it's all over. It helps make up for the 'wot no amputation?' anti-climax of the demise itself. The CITV Old Skool YouTube channel has a clip here.

    The only teams with Andrews in them are both from Series 4 - Simon's team from Swansea and Giles' team from New Forest. And none of them have surnames resembling Sheen...
