In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

Hugo has been known to make a few cameo appearances at Knightmare Live performances - both he and Mark Knight featured at the Leicester Square Theatre performance in November last year.

I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

Another vote for the series 4 lair. It felt more natural and a little more spooky to be out there hiding in the woods. There again Ariadne is one of my favourite KM 'characters', so it's all good for me

Hello and welcome to the forum! I was like you, browsing the website for years before joining the forum. Hope you enjoy your time here! With regards to the games you have been mentioning, especially Papasangre 2, can you get this on an android phone? This sounds like a cool game! I 100% agree with your last statement too!

Happy anniversary Hobgoblin! I've only clocked up 41 days so far but would agree with all of your comments. A visit to the Knightmare forums has become an integral part of my day!

Maybe a deal has been struck and hasn't been announced. Would seem silly for Challenge not to air them. If that is the case, I would hope that we would hear something soon, given that Series 2 is nearing the end of its run on Challenge.

Akash's advisors from series 2 were hopeless Also there was another team from series 1 or 2 that got to the room where you had two sets of spears coming from the right/left and you had to time it and avoid them. The team spent about a minute going "Go!!! No Stop!!!! No No Go!!! Stop!!!!! Now Go!!! Wait Stop!!!!" Eventually they made it through but I remember thinking that would have driven me mad

Series 8 episodes 3 and 7 - when Daniel leaves Level 2 after speaking to Maldame, and when Mike exits a room after casting the KNOT spell. There's also the first episode of that series when the actual dragon (not just its shadow) appears in the Level 1 clue room.

"You're in a chamber" isn't helpful - "chamber" isn't a word most people would naturally use! If it's a corridor/cave/clearing/etc, that's a different matter to an extent, but how much does it matter? All the dungeoneer really needs to know immediately on entering a new area is (1) where to go, (2) where NOT to go [i.e., down a pit]. After that, if they don't require immediate movement [e.g., bomb room, corridor of blades], next comes who or what else is there that might be relevant, but what the area actually looks like to the advisors never really needs to come up except insofar as it relates to clues or dangers. You'd be as well saying "You're on a solid floor" or whatever and skipping rather than altering "room". It isn't a question of being important for the purposes of the game. It's perfectly possibly to forgo the description altogether. Considering that the dungeoneer is essentially blind, he/she needs to be steered around either by the advisers, a game character or the Eye Shield regardless of how much or little the dungeoneer is actually aware of. If there's a hazard in the room, he or she isn't required to know what it is or where it is, since it's the advisers task to guide him or her safely around it in any case, especially as plenty of things actually move around. The reason why dungeoneers request a description of the room or location they are in is simple: because they want to be kept in the loop. While the three advisers are able to become fully immersed in the experience, the poor person in the helmet is usually relegated to puppet status. While some have still described the experience as thrilling and unique, it's difficult to envision the dungeoneer having quite the same enjoyment the advisors are getting because he or she is blind, and simply following instructions the whole time. If you're in the helmet, it's easier to remain properly immersed in the whole experience if you're kept up to date on everything that's going on. That means proper and full descriptions from the advisors of where the dungeoneer actually is, and other little details of significance in the scene, that way you feel as if you're having an actual adventure.

Those FrightKnight trophies were given away as prizes for mastering the dungeon for some seasons weren't they. I wonder if that one was simply a spare or a prop that was used during the production of the series. I'd very much hope a winner hasn't given-up possession of such a prized artefact. There weren't a whole lot a winners after all.

The trouble with "Watchers" is that it referred to the entire audience, and not everyone who watches Knightmare would consider themself a member of the fandom. Like, I watch Doctor Who and Star Trek and enjoy them, but I'm not the sort of hardcore fan that you might call a Whovian or a Trekker/Trekkie. So I'm not sure that "Watchers" (a.k.a. "those who merely watch") is the right term for "these absolutely undefeatable fans who just keep on at it"... though I definitely prefer it to "Knighties". That being the case, "Watchers of Illusion" is a very specific title, introduced and used exclusively by Treguard, of which only true fans of Knightmare would be familiar. That's both a blessing and a curse; while the title is incredibly apt and suitable to refer to us by us, those who are not fans of Knightmare (but are aware of the series and that we are fans of it) would likely have never heard of the saying or properly understand or remember it. Pretty much anyone knows that a "Trekkie" or "Trekker" is a fan of Star Trek. Likewise, it's pretty obvious that a "Whovian" is a fan of Doctor Who. That's because the name of the show (in part) is included. Even people who had never heard these phrases before would at least understand what it is they refer to. "Knighties", for better or worse, is probably the most appropriate. Despite the fact that I absolutely loathe that title, it's probably the best that can really be achieved. I don't mind so much that "Knighties" sounds like "90's", considering that Knightmare was on the air during that decade it seems like a lucky and bizarrely appropriate coincidence. My problem with "Knighties" lies in the fight is sounds like "nighties", which could be confused for pyjamas.

....would they still have replaced Greystagg with Maldame? I have read on here in numerous places that is the reason for the change (she could no longer fit the costume, and the new character of Maldame was placed behind a balcony to hide her bump). But surely Greystagg could equally have been put behind a balcony? Was it ever officially stated that is the reason for the character change? Or is this just fan conjecture? Don't know if that's true or not! I would have just assumed Tim Child wanted to use a new character for series 8.

I don't know if anyone remembers a death in series 2 when a team fail to take the gauntlets and therefore can't deal with a catacomb bite. They go into a room to the left where Moghdred says "You've wandered into one of my little play-pens, play a while, play forever! (evil maniacal laugh and dungeoneer dies) Just before that though is when they meet the oracle of confusion in the object room (the one with the stairs at the top) who clearly says "The way forward is the way back" but the team don't go back. This isn't mentioned concerning the death weirdly. There's also a random one in series 2, where the dungeoneer wanders into the object room at the top of the stairs, and this ghostly shroud floats over and kills them. I never understood that one This was in the episode repeated by Challenge last night/this morning. I believe the oracle says that "The way out is also the way back", referring to what we saw in the previous, winning quest, i.e. that the dungeoneer would have to travel beyond Level 3 and the Dungeon in order to complete the quest and get back alive. The other death you mentioned is from the second quest of Series 2. The cavernwraith attacked the dungeoneer because the team hadn't earned a spell from Cedric that would have protected them.

Yes I agree. As a kid I didn't realise it was added in post, and as fair as I was concerned it was a real threat. It's only been watching the repeats I noticed how the teams never acknowledged it. Best thing about being a kid it's easier to believe what you're seeing, you let your imagination run wild.

Curiously, the table where the knapsack and its contents were held sometimes had other odd items on it too. I suspect it was occasionally used as a "dumping ground". Either that or we missed out on the "bottle of Evian" in the dungeon.

It does make sense. Curiously, actually, I suspect that this sort of thing is easier to say about a character from Knightmare, who tends to be quite consistent in their "mood" and how they present themselves.
