Would you want Treeguard back in a new Knightmare?
-
Okay, I've dredged the dustiest forum archives and finally come up with what TC said about involving Hugo in the new Knightmare:
" of course I'd like Hugo to be part of any revived show, but it won't be my say-so, and if it sits within a longer programming strand, then the existing hosts of that strand may host the inserted game. I don't know. One answer would be to clone our own Dungeon Master and insert him into the dungeon as a Help/Oracle. It also means Hugo could be just as he was in 1986. This would make him very happy - as it would me!"
The current thinking at that stage was evidently to have two separated KM programmes of 10-12 minutes each, the break in the middle allowing interactive voting and such to take place. Of course, that thinking may have changed. If definitely tells us, however, that he sees the great attraction of involving Hugo if he can, and that he's aware of the possibility of inserting him "within" the Dungeon- presumably as some form of avatar- if that proved the preferable option. Given the programme would- at least as far as we know to date- be live, there'd be some merit in having everything VR, rather than having it mixed between "real" and "virtual". The mixed media was said to be sometimes awkward and expensive in the original series, although of course having everything VR would present certain drawbacks too.
There's also a Treguard avatar picture up, at: http://knightmare.v21hosting.co.uk/knews/knightmare_vr/avhugo.jpg

I think Treguard would definately be a big thumbs up for a new KM series, since its likely that the format will be so different we need something of the original to keep the whole KM theme in there - Treguard being one (as maqny say it won't be the same without him) and the theme tune, and the basic idea of traversing dungeons on a quest with a dungeoneer. The rest is free for updating and change - as happened with each new series.

'Nobody does it better...'
Where would ANY incarnation be without his devastatingly eviiil sounding 'Ooooooh, Nasty'?
The new generation MUST be given the STARE, too!!!

Seriously, I don't think that Knightmare would be Knightmare without Treguard; the point of Knightmare in the early series' was that the dungeon has been conquered by Treguard - hence, the dungeon master. I think he's the only person who could possibly be a host for Knightmare - the show without him, in any form, would just be of no interest to me, really.
he doesn't have to be played by Hugo, of course, but I also say that Hugo would the the ideal choice - well of course he would!

Should Hugo reprise his role as Treguard?
Short answer- Yes!
Long answer - Yesamundoamigo!
Some things shud be kept for future KM!
Hugo as Treguard - in some shape or form
Mark Knight as Lord Fear
Most of the original cast- ie Hordriss, Motley, Pickle!
The KM Music - maybe jazzed up a little for the new era!

Again, this adds to the wonderful debate about the unknowns of the new project. What would work, what wouldn't? What would please all, what wouldn't?
I'm in agreement with those who agree that Knightmare couldn't be the same without Hugo Myatt - certain elements are always just too prominent to be missing. As far as the avatar technology goes, I find it difficult to think of how a computerised clone could interact with the same ~ humour, expression.. everything. I blank my mind totally from the sprite from V.I. - it's totally different, but it does come to mind nonetheless. Given the amount of communication that went on in later series, the lack of human inclusion could be a little more ackward - but given how a lot of Treguard's wisdom through Series 2 came diffused through the playing screen, maybe there are possibilities.
As I've said before, I have total trust in Tim Child that, as the original creator of the greater game, his decisions will only be the best for the new game.
