    As Fidjit quite rightly says....

    Dealing with VR all round it doesn't look quick work...

    You imagine how many lines of code it takes to make Windows XP work on your computer. You need code to tell it how to do math, how to change the font, how to send and receive email.

    However, the system doesn't to worry about a 3rd dimension to calculate since it's not virtual reality.

    So, try and imagine how many lines of code it will take to develop Knightmare VR and the basic engine for the other things Tim has in mind like TimeGate.

    Let me give you an example of code

    NUMBER = (RND*10)

    PRINT="I'M THINKING OF A NUMBER BETWEEN 1 AND 10. HAVE A GUESS."

    GUESS=FALSE

    START LOOP WHILE GUESS = FALSE

    WAIT FOR USER INPUT

    IS GUESS = NUMBER?

     TRUE = GUESS = TRUE

     PRINT = "YOU GUESSED CORRECTLY!"

     FALSE = GUESS=FALSE

     PRINT = "NOPE, THAT'S NOT IT, TRY AGAIN"

    END LOOP

    That's just a simple text based guessing game. Bring in graphics and you have a whole new slew of problems and things to play around with.

    I hope you can appreciate what kind of work has had to be put in for the VR Dungeon System to be created, and can understand why it's taking so long.

  • Knightmare on DVD - any news?

    Just on a note - an old old old game called "Dragon's Lair" has been released on DVD for less than £10.

    Basically you guide Dirk the Daring through the castle dungeon and try and rescue the princess. Every few seconds you need to select an option. Don't bother and you'll automatically fail that room. Get the sequence of moves right and move onto the next dungeon.

    Yes, i'm telling you, this game plays on any standard DVD Player, you do not need a computer!

    Could be the closest you'd get to Knightmare on DVD. Have a look for it on Play.com, it's great little game.

    My view on the theme tune is this -

    the one we all currently know and love should stand for the bluescreen era of the Dungeon Dimension.

    Let the new generation of fans enjoy a new tune for a new era.

    I know i'd love to have a shot at questing (as would many others) in both old and new formats, but being 22, i think my luck would hold better with the TimeGate rather than the Dungeon Dimension.

    I don't know if BVA is accepting names just in case, but if BVA does, i will quite happily send him my contact details as and when needed, for either TG or KMVR.

    The Greater Game's evolved over the years, so let the theme music evolve. It worked on Red Dwarf from the ochestral to "Fun Fun Fun in the Sun Sun Sun." (Opening Credits Reference for anyone who remembers)

    Besides, BVA's gotten loads of feedback from just posting a demo vid, i'm sure he'd let us demo the new theme music to go with it.

    And there's nothing stopping old cameos (Maybe the eyeshield in the Antechamber? The Helm of Justice sat around in the distance? A picture frame with a difference Knightmare character in it each week?)

    I'm still looking forward to seeing the Greater Game make it's return, even though a few comprimises have to made. After all, it's better than not at all, now, isn't it?

    Some of your queries addressed:

    Hugo was Hugo

    Lord Fear was Mark Knight

    The narrator (Goblin) and the Ogre were myself.

    Nick Collett played both Lissard and Despair.

    Louise Milford was Ellie

    Even with sidesteps in the London tests, 3 out of 4 teams perished. It's really very, very much harder than we made it look in the recorded sequence, where obviously we only had one featured team, and for the purpose of the excercise we had to show them succeeding.

    BVA - You mentioned about the teams perishing - any chance of a clip in the future showing a perishing?

    From what I gather, it was Hugo Myatt himself.

    It sounded like Hugo to me.

    My curiousity lies with "transforming" contestant to dungeoneer. Is this on the TV site on are we going to be in suspense again?

    Want to Help?

    I've managed to cobble together a few images that NGage owners can use as wallpapers.

    Before anyone asks regarding ringtones on the NGage, i would suggest you use a Midi or MP3 from the Info Site - The do come out pretty well.

    ~sets his wallpaper to Life Force Green~ what better way to theme your phone?

    My first niggle on the pilot...

    Dwarf Tunnels - The music doesn't suit it at all, so i'm hoping that it's on being used as a "stand in" and it should be a bit darker.

    Clue Room - Erm, my niggle here was the way they selected the objects. I was thinking maybe they could touch it and the object fades from the table and the icon fades onto the inventory?

    Despair's Ice Block - We could barely see the Elf Maid inside of it, i'm not sure if that's our monitor or not, but maybe the ice could have a bit more transparency.

    Audio - Every time the dungeoneer spoke, there was this annoying hiss... i don't think he wants to grow up and be lissard so i hope that get's fixed.

    I do have another niggle, but not sure if this has already been discussed - Is there going to be a Helm of Justice or has that been skipped for the new Avatar format? I thought that they would have the helm on, but they would still be able to see due to the "magic of the helm" a bit like the adventure game books.

    Spellcasting was pretty good, but maybe a little effects on the letters to fade them out when the spell activates with the music? They could just go "poof" in a cloud of gold smoke or something.

    Otherwise, I'm impressed - good work by Tim and the TV crew there, and i hope it keeps up.

    I'm pretty much caught up already, thanks to the site - that reminds me, i need to tape tonights ep of Knightmare...

    I wanna see if i can convert the audio into MP3 and set the theme as my ring tone on my NGage QD...

    Hey guys - i've been busy over the last year or two, which meant i wasn't able to come by - some work with an american laser tag company came up as well, so after getting that one out of the way, It was good to come back and catch up on the Knews.

    (Adam Battersby might remember me, he had fun killing me off 2 years in a row in the RPG!)

    I'm in the same boat as Fright Knight, actually.

    I was working with 118 118 up until last wednesday when i was let go, so i'm hunting again. A temp job with KVR wouldn't go amiss on the CV of course. Ah well, life goes on.

    BVA, you said about the joysticks at waist height? What if the dungeoneers had something like VR games had, which is a small hand held remote - tilt it forward for forward, back for back, etc, plus there's 3 buttons or so on each controller (Jump, Spellcast, Sidestep etc)
