The card you are missing is

    A GARGOYLE APPEARS

    and poses you a riddle.

The player to your left must ask you a riddle. If you are correct you collect 2 helm tokens. If you get it wrong you are swallowed up and sent to prison.

    OK.

Challenge! - has 10 identical cards

Spell of destruction and spell of protection both have 3.

There are 18 types of cards with 2 each. ( will only type out if need be!!

Which leaves the following with only one

    Beware!

    Stumble into ariadnes web

    Huge ogre attacks you

    Fright night suddenly appears.

    Hope that helps.

Incidentally I cannot believe how nice my set still looks after all this time!

Watching lots of Knightmare with my 8 year old the now (well, whats left on youtube at the moment)

We both agreed that spying the two figures (including a strange red one) at a distance while looking out over that big long path was a very strangely creepy moment...

Who was the red person - Hordriss? If so, where did he go?

    Hullo!

At the moment I am watching my box set of 'The Adventure Game'. This series contains some of my actual earliest memories in my life! (Season 3 - I was 4) Anyway, it got me in the mood to post some memories of watching Knightmare on first broadcast - I'll only go up to series 5 as I taped 6-8 and watched them constantly! I was born in August 1978 btw. Having not watched the first 5 series for a few years now, some memories are hard to tie down, and ONE is curiously wrong (I'll list it though)

I remember the opening credits of the very first episode! - Not havinga clue what the programme was about , I was looking forward to a pretty cool looking cartoon series!

    Really loving caspar the key.

Think the wall monsters looked like those wee squishy hand face puppet thingys you used to get in party bags.

Cedric the monk blethering on and on while the dungeoneer's life force started to run out and getting given some food just in time!

    The Gargoyle saying 'doom'

    Treguard being paralysed.

Being completely shit scared of the cavernwights. Going to school the next day and discovering that everyone else who watched it thought the same!

Also being just as scared of the Catacombite.

Seeing a team cast a spell to free some woman and then being trapped by a spider!

Watching a bunch of nice Scottish lassies reach a wall and then the dungeon start to break up.

Missing season 4 ALTOGETHER and not even realising I had done so, as when series 5 started I thought Pickle was a brand new character.

'Oh no master! - its a blocker!' - Not sure if Pickle said that everytime, but it felt like it.

    AND - a weird one.

Speaking about Knightmare with my pal during season 6. We were discussing the hilarious time when a brand new team fell off a ledge while choosing the door in the first room and died!

Never happened obviously, but we both remembered it at the time!

    Your turn!

    Thanks for the link!

Hmm, although I did watch Record Breakers on occasion, it definitely wouldn't have taken precedence over Kinghtmare!!

So a mystery it will have to remain!

Having just watched series 4 on Challenge, it turns out this is the ONLY series of Knightmare I have no memories of whatsoever... (I think I might start a thread on early memories, if I cant find one!)

I am now 99.99% sure I didn't watch this series on original broadcast so I can only presume there was something really good on the BBC at the same time.! (Shame on me!)

    Does anyone know??

Sorry, we did watch it on You Tube! We have watched what is available on Sky at the moment i.e - 2/3 of season 3 and halfof season 4.

I would buy a DVD release in a heartbeat! I hate watching you tube but the boy wanted more Knightmare!!!

Just watched this with my 4 yr old. A few thoughts/observations.

My son was getting very bored - that's a first! - the Smirkenoff scene was far too long, there were far too many eyeshield scenes and the Julius scene went on forever!!

Looking at a previous post they mention how one of the advisors has never seen Knightmare before..... I could almost believe NONE of this team have, their ignorance was staggering - I've also never seen such a bored looking team, did they just grab them off the street?

Sylvester Hands didn't sound or look very much like himself.

Level 1 was far too easy, the only challenge was getting one question right - which they did....

I liked Treguards intro outside the castle.

Hope episode 2 is a bit more exciting

Regarding other posts doubting the death scene...

I reckon (someone could probably correct me:) ) that a lot of death scenes were re-filmed to make them more convincing. He probably originally took his step to the left and the crew then said 'Sorry, you're dead' They then re-filmed it with instructions to the dungeoneer to 'step left and act like you're falling'.

Ah interesting! I wonder how many times that happened on the series? (ie the team not really having a free choice after all.)

  • Series 8 Episode 5

    Series 8

    thoughts/observations

This team are really good at guiding!

I'm confused with the 'Play your cards right' - why was the eight of clubs the right one?

Even more confused with Treguards virtual insistence (Are you sure?) on using the Sight potion.- The team clearly expected the dungeoneer to be able to see clearly ,and he couldn't - so what was the point and what would have happened if they didn't have the potion.?

The fake Sidriss sub plot would have been better if they had to choose between two. As it stood, it was pretty lame.

I cant help but laugh at the dungeoneers 'Spyglass Position'!!

    Series 8

    A few observations/thoughts

Meant to say forearlier episodes, having the Dungeoneer gently lower himself to the ground after passing through a trap door and only getting up when told is an... interesting thing.

Obviously the lack of a Sight spell has been mentioned. I reckon the producers decided they would die in the Corridor of Blades however well the team did.

The new team are such a cute wee bunch I liked them immediately

My son pointed out when they drank the invisibilty potion they actually passed THROUGH the Skeletron and surely should have died. - Unless its an intangibility potion as well?

I liked the Dungeoneers banter with Honesty Bartrum, I like when they can take the inintiative a bit and not repeat all the advisors tell them...

  • Series 8 - Episode 3

    Series 8

Again, just watched it with the boy - some thoughts and observations.

I thought the way the dungeoneer actually PLEADED with his advisors to use the fearsome potion was odd. Did a crew member whisper 'Listen you - drink the potion or you die.' perhaps because they were taking an age to decide what to do?

Gideon must have been told to let the other advisors get more involved, but then the lad on the left couldn't describe the moving floor and it was handed back to Gideon again. At another point he said to Gideon 'Tell him to ---' - like he'd been forbidden to talk to the dungeoneer - the team dynamics are fascinating!

Honesty Bartram was a well acted 'wide boy' character. I liked how he never ruled out the key as a possible trade.........

A good episode though, without hindsight they looked liked winners!

    Series 8

Just watched this episode again with my wee boy.

A few thoughts and observations ( I think I'll do this all the time- if that's ok.... )

I've just noticed series 8 episodes are only twenty minutes long! - combine that with the massive spy glass scenes and there's hardly time for good old dungeoneering!

I loved Lord Fears risqué line re Stilleta 'She's got long legs and a couple of other striking features'

Gideon is ...... well lets just say I kept feeling really sorry for the other two advisors who clearly kept trying to contribute and couldn't get a word in.

The same goes for whenever Treguard and Majida were having their scripted banter, the advisors either ignored them or talked over them

What was the actual point of the Early warning horn?

Snapper Jack- Hmm, the actor tries his best (I think!) but fails to convince. Can I also add to the above posts that as far as I am concerned they got all 3 answers but he said they got 2...

I did enjoy the episode but very little actually happened !!!

    Newbie Welcome

    Great forum!

I'm Steven ,i'm 37.Always loved Knightmare. Been to two of the Knightmare Live shows in Edinburgh, loved them too.

Got the first 4 Knightmare gamebooks - loved them as well

Had the game for the Spectrum - it looked great but neither me or my pals could get out the first room.

Just dug oot the Knightmare board game - not sure if I love that.

Me and my pals filled in an application for series 8 - no luck though (although we tried really hard and filled the boxes completely!)

Just introduced my nearly 5 yr old bairn to the show (series 3 on demand) and he was hooked INSTANTLY - which was great.

Now I'm 'forced' to play an improvised Knightmare game with my son every night - what an ordeal!

    Anyway, how are you?
