    In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

    Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

    I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

    Should the eye shield have been ditched for season 8?

    The Eye Shield was used as a "break" between the sets, they could show the Dungeoneer walking down a walkway, this would I assume give them the time in the studio to make a new set up No in fact. Most players who were on the series say that the breaks between filming scenes were very long, often upwards of an hour. It's not clear when exactly the bits with the advisors watching the Eye-Shield sequences were filmed, but they definitely weren't nearly long enough to cover the change of set lay-outs and chromakey images. although really I think the pathways were set, regardless of which door they took. This is probably true. The series was good at 'bluffing' variation, when it seems very likely that most quests were far more linear than that. As to answer your question, No, I think the eye-shield is/was a good device and should remain even in any upcoming remake (one can hope cant we? ) TES is used very widely in the KMRPG cutscenes (although whether they will ever be released is a big sticking point). Personally, I'd rather see the back of TES, but it does give the RPG a feel of authenticity.

    I think this is the first time since I joined the forum a long time back that I've felt that something I had to say warranted a topic. I may well, of course, be grossly mistaken in thinking this does [And apologies to those who see this in any way as cross-posting]. I've been looking for a way to explain the paradox that has been circling in my head for the past few months. I tried alluding to the research material I work with in seventeenth-century literature, and that worked to an extent, but I think it has landed with a sequence in my beloved KM; in particular, one found through an earlier contribution to this forum. Inevitably, any parallel I was searching for would either have to involve the confusion, i.e. a quest that I did not understand, or the move to solution, i.e. a quest where I thought I may have seen a chink of light where others might not. The answer was a combination of the two, sparked by revisiting a wonderful thread on Chris' team in Series 5 [http://www.knightmare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=860] and the excellent debate that took place. I'd be delighted if anybody interested would like to follow the thought process further at my blog. [http://royalarbor.wordpress.com/2009/07/30/knightmare/] I'd also be fascinated to learn of other instances where scenes, episodes, quests or characters in Knightmare have provoked some measure of soul-searching or self-understanding.     I've just signed up again as I can't seem to log in with my old ID, and I'm sure the email address I used for it is no longer active. I was wondering if there are any gamers on here that use a Knightmare-related gamertag for online gamertag? I was wondering because my Xbox gamertag is Hordriss.

    Lord Fears Intros season 6 to 8

    Definitely S7's intro. In the intros in 6 and 8, Fear was, for me, behaving like a football hooligan chanting macho songs at rival fans, albeit far more eloquently. S7's intro actually told us something. And it was one of the first times we are introduced to the CGI graphics wasn't it? I loved this introduction, what with Lissard being introduced and Lord Fears' sense of humor taking its toll upon encountering the nervous Atlantian.

Colour me embarrassed. Just be thankful that you saw 4 seasons of the greatest kids TV show ever. A lot of people have never seen it!

    Post 2000 however, the overall quality of CITV's output began to drop considerably Somewhat biased, I think, especially for a wiki article. The 00s CITV output did see some very good gameshows... What happened to ITV? Well, the decision to not make cITV shows for teens dented the variety of the output, and OFCOM's decision to ban junk food ads pretty much killed cITV's funding (Which, apparently and bafflingly surprised OFCOM despite being pretty obvious to everyone else). the CITV channel therefore broadcasts pretty much just repeats... Meanwhile CBBC has new programming and... Uhh... Pretty much ignores the 12-16 year olds and has done since CITV stopping counting them (but that is picking up, in response to the same OFCOM report that prompted to Channel 4 started looking into doing 12-16 year old aimed shows. As far as I'm aware the BBC have now one show aimed at that range, while channel four have none yet)

    In mythology, the Brollachan is a creature that usually appears as two eyes and a mouth, often from a rock of somesuch. I think his shapeshifting ability is usually used to travel through walls, ceilings and so forth, rather than actually change his shape, exactly. He appears in "Lord Fear's Domain" as a voice issuing from the bottom of a well, so presumably he can manifest himself in water without harm, too.

    Who would ever actually employ an assassin in KM? If they can be scared off by children making loud noises then they couldn't even take someone like Gretel.

    Though, it would have been cool to see Granitas or whoever spit out the bones... Chewing through clothes, a spongy helmet a leather handbag! Its like eating a shell on prawn! Then spit out the bones after that! I suppose its kind of like eating fish! You get nearly bugger all out of the blasted thing, after bones and skin... (Anyway,) I suppose it could have worked like the cavern wraith (Obviously not shimmering towards you but) it would drain your life force at a much faster rate...

    The credits on the last episode of season 5 gave us a look at an unused causeway puzzle that took the form of a number grid leading up to five doors at the far end of the chamber. At first glance, the grid looked a little like the Speed Chess puzzle from season 2, because it was made up of black and white flagstones. But each stone had a number on it. The exact way the puzzle worked is unclear but it does look very complicated. The numbers on the blocks would often change, and certain combinations of numbers on blocks that fell away would open and close different doors.     Maybe it's just me, but when I originally watched Knightmare I found these guys to be truly terrifying (OK, I was five years old at the time. ) Seriously though, their booming footsteps that followed a particular dungeoneer for room after room and the fact that you mostly only saw their feet made them deeply unsettling. Watching the series again has lessened that feeling of dread greatly but one scene that still has the ability to creep me out is the scene where Lord Fear sends a troll (the King I think) to attack the antechamber and the fact that HE ACTUALLY MANAGES TO GET IN briefly still makes meshiver slightly. It must be the sight of him coming up head first, although seeing him falling all that way to crush Fear and Lizzard really undoes the scare factor and makes me laugh with glee. I would like to have seen more done with the trolls, perhaps a scene where the dungeoneer would have to confront the giant centurion lookalike with a spell or something (or maybe even having a sword fight ), but nevertheless they were still more than adequate for the job.

    I think I know what I'm prepared to put it down to, if it doesn't sound too xenophobic: the Americans. Before I get shouted at, I'll explain: the Americans have a higher incidence of manic depression (bipolar disorder) than we do. This is frequently reflected in American fiction in which there's often a slapstick 'crazy' quality to at least one of the cast. As time has gone on - even up to the present day - we see more and more emphasis on goofy humour. America's taste for this kind of humour has translated to our fiction, too - indeed, we do share a lot of fiction with them (e.g., Hollywood). I think that what we saw in Knightmare in terms of the gradual casting-off of edginess in favour of comedy might be an example of this. But I definitely agree that characters lost their edginess. I'd forgotten how grim Hands was - and I'm watching season 5 at the moment. I don't think he inspected dungeoneers later on, checking them for weapons. But he gives me the creeps. Props to him back then. Somewhere before I mentioned Motley and the fact that, early on in season 3 when Cliff stumbled upon him, he took a dislike to the dungeoneer - even to the point of not giving Cliff a chance to listen to his advisors when he asked them, "What should I say?". I'd like to have seen more of that from Motley. I still hold that he's a more influential character than most would believe. As for Lissard calling dungeoneers 'kidsies' later on... I find that abhorrent, having watched the first few series afresh. Don't even get me started on Snapper Jack's snapdragon glovepuppet. I think that Knightmare is refreshingly grim, especially seen in these times of Horton Hears a Who, Bee Movie, Toy Story and all the rest. We need more of that kind of darkness. But I have a horrible feeling that, if we did have a new series of Knightmare then we'd get an awful, goofy parody of it.
