In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

Hugo has been known to make a few cameo appearances at Knightmare Live performances - both he and Mark Knight featured at the Leicester Square Theatre performance in November last year.

I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

The magenta skies gave it that extra-dimensional, almost unreal effect, however I do feel it could have looked better normal.

I'd probably be inclined to agree and also it was the cliff hangers that was one reason why people tuned in each week and the excitement of thinking on the way home from school "Ooh Knightmare's on tonight, I wonder what's going to happen. Is such and such going to win?" and so on...

4/5 million was the figure normally mentioned at the time (in the Knightmare Adventurers Club magazine etc). I think it dropped off slightly towards the latter years (that's what ITV told me at the time) but there was a general decline in children's TV audiences on terrestrial TV due to competition from satellite/cable. Indeed, the most popular CITV/CBBC shows nowadays only get about 2 million viewers.

Geez I said I had a few ideas, now you want me to find a Dragon? Some people are never satisfied! I will keep everyone updated though, likely all will be revealed by October.

There was also a staircase from level 2 to level 3 used in Barry's quest in season 7.

I can't remember exactly how scary series 2 was, so until Thursday, I'm saying series 4. I thought the level three's of this series were terrifying in many places, particularly the Mogdred/other baddie scenes. And Ariadne chills the blood too!

Ahh.. My series 4 is, alas, not complete. I'll look out for that one. Okay, so he's a coward on (almost) every occasion.

The 1-3 neutral Treguard was a lot more fun, he took a sadistic delight almost in the teams failure, only advising as much as was needed rather than doing EVERYTHING. 'Oh look master it's a blocker' episode after episode got very tiring with Pickle's inane banter and with Majida it was overadvised and she tended to get annoying, no offence to Majida fans. Neutral also gave some top class lines and didn't help quite as much, he felt more like the 'Dungeon Master' than a leader of good.

Personally, I feel that the early series were meaner (in a good way) and were far more gripping to watch. There was definitely a 'no mercy' policy at work there, whereas latterly all sorts of allowances were made. For example, being helped by Gwendoline even without giving the right answers and making up 'convincing-sounding' (but wrong) answers to give to the Brollachan. I hated it when Treguard consoled a series 8 losing team with these words as well: "Magic would have helped you with this very difficult puzzle..." Why not just just tell them off for not guiding their dungeoneer properly and be done with it?!

Isn't it funny how both the presenters on both of the shows aren't doing it anymore! Maybe, in a dank dungeon somewhere; Carol; "Please release us! Its so dark in here!" Fear; "Oh, well why didnt you say! You see I have has an excellent invention installed, its low powered, and brighter than the sun! Its called The Carol Smillie Smile!" Alan; "Please let us go!" Fear; "Why, its not like you have to be anywhere! You did quit Gardeners World, didnt you! And anyways, you not going till you have reapired the damages to my property!"

I'm not sure John Woodnutt had much say in the matter in fact. Tim Child had wanted to get rid of the Merlin/Mogdred scenario for a while as it was too derivative, owed too much to Arthurian legend. I don't think there's any doubt that Lord Fear - or at least SOME kind of new arch-villain - would have been introduced for s5 even if John Woodnutt had been retained.

Yes, the idea is to be discreet. I have no problems with people disussing the issue of tape piracy or encoding on the forum, as it helps everyone understand the issues. Obviously we don't condone the availability of such items.

How about the worst level 3 I would have to say 5-6 4 was lacking I admit, but it had some real dangers.

His WIFE could be the father of Lord Fear? I knew sexual customs were pretty animalistic back in Angevin times but... The murderer in question was Baron Vestan, by the way. I think LF is neither young enough nor human enough to be his son.

Thread Conclusion... I think what we have established here is that there was nothing typical about any of it. Each series was unique in its own special way.

On the subject of Hordriss, I was particularly surprised at how long it took to get him in the game in S8! (Fifth Episode I think!) If KM did continue in the same dircetion as 8 I wonder if there would actaully be any good guys left? Only Stilletta made reappearances with the odd ones with Sidriss, Hordriss and, to an even lesser extent Motley! As for the dialogue through the show, that never really worked because the advisors were keen on the game. Did anyone else notice the scene in one of the first two episodes of 8, where Majida asks Treguard about Skeletrons and getting a full answer, then trying to again half a minute later with the advisors cutting short! I think they must have edited a fair bit in 8, and possibly throughout!
