In the early series, there seems to have been a definitive, specific, laid out path. An item was used in a particular location and if you didn't have the item (for whatever reason) when it was needed then you died. The problem is that this lead to the situation where you can do badly in the clue room and still get through the dungeon by being lucky with your selection of items. On the other hand, if you did well, picked up exactly the right items, but missed a clue (or didn't understand the advice given) you were certainly dead. So bad teams could progress and good teams could fail, and it wasn't necessarily clear why. Later series seem to have eased up on this and there always seems to have been an alternative approach available for taking the wrong items (at least in level 1).

Could someone please help? I'd really like to see the extended version. You can now watch the original upload of the extended Geek Week episode here. There's also a later upload here. Let us know what you think of it. Something I've only just noticed: the first thing to happen in the episode is a facing-away-from-the-camera sidestep (by Veruca). Surely deliberate? Thank you! Great to see the extra stuff! Also nice to hear the opening theme tune fade out naturally without the door-creaking-open sound effect at the end.

I wonder if the Lords Of The Game pilot will forever remain a convention exclusive or if there might still be any future opportunity to see it. (And the pilot eps of Knightmare, for that matter. Would be cool if Tim could dig them out for the 40th anniversary next year!) I fear it’s unlikely. The pilot was filmed as “not for broadcast” so I imagine that legally it cannot be distributed. We did ask if we could include it on the DVD but although he gave it serious consideration, Tim said nay. I fear the pilots may have the same status

On another forum in January 2002, knightmare dave wrote: hi peeps whist supposedly revising for french ha like thats happening i was wathcing the so called daytime tv and repeats of original where the heart is were on in a clip where 2 nurses went to a house 2 children were watching tv and there it was series 6 of knightmare where january was in fron of the drednaught i was quite suprised as the first series did not get releases until 1997 so i wonder how they got hold of that??? wow anyway just thought id mention it I don't know if anyone else ever managed to see this, but I just found it on ITV Player as it was recently repeated on ITV3. (If you want to have a look, you'd better hurry as it's only there for a couple more days.) It's in Series 1 Episode 6 ('Dream', first aired on 11th May 1997) and the relevant scene is from 32:08 to 32:46, though you only see the TV screen for a couple of seconds at 32:26. Not sure why the theme music is playing loudly throughout this encounter. Here is a screencap: [image: original.jpg]

As far as I'm aware (and I don't think I'm mistaken), Tim Child has only visited Knightmare Chat once, during series 1 of the RPG. There's a log of the game, including conversation with Tim, here.

I suggested those dates as I wanted to wish him a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Also I wanted to say hello and I wasn't very sure when he would next turn up on chat or even if he would turn up in chat again this year. I thought doing a invite would be ok to give him some warning.... I know he is very busy.... That's why I picked the dates in question and not the 9th 10th or 11th as firstly I would not have been there and secondly the main reason for the invite was to say hello. I thought it was very fair to suggest the dates in question as it gives people time to decide if they want to come. Maybe in future I could choose a date a month ahead of time. As long as I know for sure it won't crash with anything. Would a month be warning enough I wonder. The only other dates we have this year to wish him a Merry Christmas are the 23rd the 24th and 25th of December. What is the likelihood he would turn up then I wonder? He'll be very busy. Afterwards we would have one chance [well three] to wish him a Happy New Year. That being the 30th and the 31st of December followed by the 1st of January. Has he ever turned up on the chat on Christmas day or close to it before?

Well at Christmas time, as with many festivals, it seems to me you have to go with the flow to a certain extent. Even if you're super organised and arrange things early, you're going to encounter busy shoppers and pick up the sense of bustle. Tim said "Enjoy the rest of the summer, boys; I know there isn't much of it left". I agree with you that the Christmas scene might not have originated with Tim; it might have come from ITV, and often he must have been balancing the competing needs of novelty, budget and audience taste. The implementation of his ideas, too, would have been through the personalities of the production crew, actors and actresses. I remember being impressed that they had managed to source the evergreen in August; perhaps August wasn't the onslaught that it has become these days regarding the arrival of Christmas stock! Isn't it kind of strange that the warmest month - August - is followed only four months (and not something like six months) by the darkest? Projecting forward - the deadest (December again) is followed four months by the liveliest, with Spring in full activity.

Thanks to everyone for bug-checking this. I think the game is relatively bug free. Although we have yet to try voting on Treguard. Since yesterday's game, I've been trying to reduce the amount of text that the game generates, as (personally) I find it quite tricky to quickly scan previous rounds to extract information. I'm also intending to add some of the optional rules so that the game has the option for people to have some definitive information. I'm working on coding a third game called Mascarade, which is more about strategy and slightly less about bluffing. It's also teamless.

I've had a look for my issues of TQ (I do at least have the first half), but - alas - I can't find them. I suspect they may have been lost in three house moves. I'll have another look and scan them if I can find the issue.

Mmmmmm. Not really what I meant by officially involved though. For the same reason we discounted debz's interviews from years back. It's not like it wouldn't have gone agead without him, after all.

I dreamt once that he done all three in a lost episode of Knightmare....... First his eyes glowed red..... then he tracked them down...... finally he put his hand in to grab the dungeoneer........ The team were rubbish at telling their dungeoneer what to do and Lord Fear caught the dungeoneer and pulled him out of his pool...... Lord Fear then said goblin fodder to a tiny dungeoneer and the skull cracked and the eyes rolled away...... I am not sure if he ever done all three things at the same time for real... It looked awesome.....

I remember at this convention meeting this monk in the stocks and my team were telling me to leave him and I refused and helped him escape the stocks that he was in.... i'm sure he was merlin..... later on after I had saved pickle number two.... merlin told me.... that you are braver then you think you are..... braver then you know........ he was really nice and kind..... I remember........ I remember now being told that merlin had died and hugging the cast and being their rock.... I remember someone crying on my shoulder...... I won't say who..... just that I talked to him.

That's a shame that Tim's not written a memoir or an autobiography yet......... I would imagine he would have some every interesting and true stories to tell us.......... maybe he would tell us strange but true stories about other fan made things that fans attended............ maybe he could have told us stories about his childhood and the kinds of jobs he done before Knightmare happened. He was at that Knightmare convention thing that I gatecrashed........... Yeah I gatecrashed a Knightmare convention thing when I was younger and saved Pickle number two....... Yeah its a long story. Wondering if that was the only time that a convention got gatecrashed by someone or if others done it before me? They handed it really calmly. First time..... they realised that I had lost my way and helped me find me way back.......but I wanted to look around the place at that point... Second time..... I asked if I could look around for five ten minutes then didn't want to leave....... Third time........ I paid five pounds to Treguard number two to get in..... all the money I had. And it was the best five pounds I've ever spent.... At one point I asked if they needed any help and Treguard number two asked me to look after Pickle number two. I looked after him well. I was nearly thrown out while looking after Pickle number two... One of the staff didn't tell the security guards that I had a job to do.....I thought at the time that Tim was the boss.... That's why I yelled Timmy when I did. I didn't know Tim was short for Timmy I was just giving him a pet name. Tim and Treguard came running and Treguard number two sorted it out with Tim's help then afterwards I found Pickle number two walking around on his own. I told Treguard number two what had happened. It turned out that Treguard number two was the boss of that convention.

Edit: I've since concluded that he more likely said, "sacra templa poeta taberna quaerabat", which can be very loosely translated as: the priest seeks the temple, the poet seeks the pub. Hence Brother Mace's subsequent remark that a poet would like the joke, but a priest would consider it lousy. Apologies if you already knew this, but I only just discovered that Brother Mace's "joke" is actually taken from a Latin textbook, where it's an example of a sentence that omits a repeated word. It's supposed to be "Sacerdos templum, poeta tabernam quaerebat", so he mangles it a bit!

I'm locking this thread and will delete it in the next couple of days. It is essentially a continuation of the "TAPE PIRACY" thread, which was locked. Extending on what KaM has said: Can everyone PLEASE stop talking about this subject. This is not the place to discuss what is and isn't legal to do in respect of watching Knightmare episodes because you will almost certainly dislike the answer. By asking, you force us to answer and you make the situation worse for both yourselves and others. Picklemyfav: As I posted in the "TAPE PIRACY" thread, there are no legal ways to download or purchase knightmare episodes. The only way to view it is via Challenge. This is not the place to ask further questions on that subject. Pooka: Don't give out legal advice. Especially don't make broadly sweeping legal statements that are wrong.

I've been looking over the last few messages in this thread, and it seems clear to me that it has well and truly run its course and is begging for a lock. Before I do so, I'll summarise that facts just in case someone looks at the last message. There are no legal episodes of Knightmare available for purchase or download ANYWHERE. There are illegal copies around, often for a price. Yes, those full episodes on popular video sharing sites are illegal. If you involve yourselves with illegally copied episodes, you could be prosecuted. Tim has suggested that discreetly, non-commercially, trading episodes within the fan-base is unlikely to attract attention. However, this does not technically constitute permission nor a guarantee that you will not be prosecuted. Under the circumstances, this site also considers such things to be immoral, since it deprives the cast and crew (many of whom are friends of this site) from being rewarded. Such copying has also potentially damaged Knightmare's return in one way or another. We sympathise with the fact that there is no way to legally obtain episodes of Knightmare at present. However, every so often, attempts for episodes to be made legally available start to surface. Copying episodes makes it less likely that any such attempt will occur/succeed. It is against this site's rules to solicit or request any copyrighted material. This includes links or any instructions on how to obtain such material. There really is no point in digging this issue up. We've heard it all before and it's not within our power to do anything at all. Let it lie or put your energy to better use, such as finding a way to legally make the episodes available. Topic locked.

Hugo Myatt mentioned that he thought Knightmare could run for at least another two series, due to the new ideas the production team had. Does anyone know or remember what some of these ideas were?
