Worst series?

For a fansite it is certainly odd to find people discussing what is BAD about Knightmare, does not make a great deal of sense to me....
Anyhow, I thought each and every season had it's own magic...With S3 just nipping ahead of the others, as seems to be the general concencus around here.

It is a good thing that we can say there were bad things about our favourite TV show. It shows we are not narrowminded little fanboys/girls/goblins/dragons/Americans.

Series 5 looks the worst (sadly, possibly the one with the most Amiga-graphics-influenced too), with the grimy looking backgrounds (series 6 uses the same to much better effect), and has some very poor teams.
Series 4 is possibly juuuuust the worst overall because the eye-shield sequences were slow and repetitive. At least in 5 they used different ones and it was a bit redder. The whole thing was so linear and rarely more than 2 rooms in a quest were that challenging...
Mind you, both had Brother Mace...but since 5 had Sir Hugh De Witless and Julius Scaramonger and a certain Lord fear and Skarkill, 4 is therefore the worst.
Or I could be diplomatic and say series 1 was the worst because it only had 8 episodes, but then I haven't seen it...

err... I think that series 4 was one of the worst, as it was a shock after series 3 being so good.
On the other hand, allthough I would never say a bad word about the show itself, I personally think that series 5 was terrible in most ways. The graphics were abserlutely crap, and I mean crap. There was nothing good about the scenes, exept for the rare settings of the coridoor of blades. The eye shield sequences in series 5 were awful too. Somehow, they improved a great deal for series 6. I also don't know how you can call some of the S5 characters good. I can't help but cringe when I see series 5, because I think about anyone who is switching on for the first time ever, to see what Knightmare is like. if you were seeing Knightmare for the very first time, and it was series 5, how inclined would you be to tune back in?
My favourite was series 3 (obviously! )... But I really want to see series 1 and 2, because although I have never seen much of them, the screenshots look really good, and lets be honest, series 1 2 and 3 are the only 'pure series'... the way Tim Child first dreamt it up.

Is there such a thing a a worst series of Knightmare?
The series can be summaried as:
1 - 3: Mainly all hand-drawn based rooms.
4 - 5: Introduction of recorded footage used to link between rooms.
6 - 7: Returning to passage ways in the form of 'real' dwarf tunnels (not computer generated). Starting to use computer generated environments.
8: Almost totally computer generated environments I think.
Each series is different and to those who want to find a worst series...

We'll be able to see s8 soon on Challenge. Please note this thread was started by an ex member, who is no longer with us. Anyway hi and welcome to our large community. Do you hunger for knowing? I suppose your going to ask us all for knowlege! I used to love series 1-4 and I found 5-8 to be big dissapointments. That is to say I don't think they wre rubbish but they had strayed too far away from the original theme of knightmare. That a sub-teranian realm consisting of dungeons and caverns rather than places like Wolfenden or Witch-haven etc. Granted much of series 4 was out of doors, but it was a good mixture of the old and the new.

I have to say that my least favourite series is series 8. It wasn't overly bad as such, it did have some redeeming features. But I think the main problem with it for me was that the rooms were pretty much all CG, and I did like the inclusion of the images of real locations that had been treated with that weird CG effect, used in earlier seasons. That's not to say that the CG wasn't good, it was very good and still looks good to this day, but I guess the old style had a special place in my heart!
I think series 7 was the perfect compromise for me because it had the mix of the two (Alas without Pickle! ). But things have to move on, don't they.

According to knightmare.com Challenge have brought the rights to series 1 & 2 and will be showing them from June. That will be interesting to see, after series 8.
