Series 7 - Episode 12
-
Yes another great ep. Just wondering how a rower manages to turn a boat, when rowing straight. Anyway The team got on with the qwest, without hardly any help apart from the room where they had to use the reveal wand. Again I reacon that they didn't need to use a potion to complete a puzzle. They made PYCR look easy. I liked the bit with Julie and Lord Fear and then with Gwen. I loved their reactions to winning at the end. Overall a great team and a well deserved and appreaciated win from the first and only all girl team. Well done.
So we're on to the everso famous Barry and gang. I liked the look on his face to what Majida said at the start. I liked the way he went through the dwarf tunnel at the start with a 'running commentary'. I found it funny when he jumped when Brother Strange appeared and the conversation was amusing too. Look forward to tomorrow's ep for more!

Great Episode and well done to the Girls, they were a very good team and they all worked well together and deserved to win.
So now onto Barry's Team, I cant wait to view his quest again, obviously I did watch it the first time it was shown on ITV all those years ago but cant remember it much so it will be good to relive all those memories.
Barry started off brilliantly, Very eager to start and was praticlly guiding himself round the tunnels(Great Stuff) Cant wait to see more tomorrow

Ever got the feeling that he had seen the dwarf tunnels before they filmed him in the dwarf tunnels.
Still I liked Lord Fears mocking of other characters.
-
I liked a lot of things about this episode, mainly that we finally got to see a winning team! I think this is the first time that Majida gets to see a team win, isn't it?
Nice bit of suspense at the end of Play Your Cards Right, with that music that makes you think they're going to die
And was it just me, or did the sword that Julie drew out of the stone look a bit too big for her? In the final room she was swinging it about a bit, and nearly cut Gwen's head off
What was with Lord Fear's final line? "I've got two minutes - you've got three hours to get out of here, Julie! I'll take two minutes!"
-
The 1st time the sword has been won i believe..
Come on Fear your not much competition are you on one on one action?
But over all level 3 was just as easy as level 2.
But according to that Green wizard he should now have completed his quest... but we know t=he hasn't.
And i still don't understand all the fuss with this Barry guy? Sounds like a complete fool to me.. big headed and all, not the kind of person i tend to like....
Well have to Waite as see maybe his not as annoying as i remember...

Uh huh. I'll skip over the obvious retort to that. Whatever else he was, Barry sure wasn't a fool. He talked non-stop and with considerable colour, forever going off at tangents, and this was a deliberate strategy on the part of his team; it confused the actors time and again throughout the quest and made it harder for them to stick to the plot, making the challenges harder to impose. (That's why Majida called him a smart bottom - the producers got really narked with the way Barry kept breaking up the flow and decided to call him a smart*ss on-screen.)
My favourite bit of the episode's a really subtle bit before the start of Barry's quest, when Majida asks Treguard if he's sure he wants to employ him. Barry glances over his shoulder with a look of feigned hurt on his face as if to say, "Who? Me?" I always think it's a nice touch when a dungeoneer goes the extra distance to play along with the actors!
-
Well atleast Barry's quest was for the shield and not the sword. Image if he had won the previous quest, I have an image of him defeating Lord Fear by using the sword to attack him instead of using the 'Arken' shield.
-
The part which made me plonder was in the "Play your cards right" part, where they hear the Goblin sounds. Why should they panic? Goblins can't leap that far! Anyway, it was a good episode, & they deserved to win. Don't know why they did Troll footstep noises where one didn't appear though. It's creepy!
-
Two things for me:
Julie herself almost blew her quest on PYCR.... she nearly touched the wrong card - also im sure she stepped into the gap, on her first jump/long stride - it looks like they move the camera away as she makes a mistake - like when they get on to Smirky.
Secondly.... OMG Barry is brilliant!!!!
He seems such a laugh - very clever tactics. Im going to really enjoy this....
-
Was that skeleton wearing the old helmet of justice? Freaky!!
-
Is that one of todays eps? Or is it just a random wondering?

It was on the day i posted it

Kind of. I'll let you into a secret...
spoilerThe Dwarf Tunnels were shaped like an A. They were made of two sets of two parallel corridors. The first set intersected by the second at the top and middle, making a squared-off A. We had seen this beforehand and Barry just decided to go ahead and wander around./spoiler
And the Troll footsteps were a form of foreshadowing. When the first occurred we on the bench couldn't hear them. But as our adventure progressed they went from something only Barry could hear, to something we all could hear, (and as the climx episode arrived) to something only we in the antechamber could hear. Really did encourage us to get a move on!

Spookily, this episode was almost reshown on it's 12th anniversary. As I said earlier, the first showing was the 26th November '93...and it was reshown today on the 27th!
There was a crash just before Treguard dismissed the team. I rewound the vdeo and it appeared that Majida had dropped the sword on the floor. She backs out of view and Treguard pauses and then continues...
I noticed that too! I thought Challenge had made a sound error at first.

This episode is almost like a taster of Series 8, in that it doesn't feature any real-life locations - the entire episode takes place in Goth, with a short scene in the dwarf tunnel set at the end. (The final episode of the series is also set wholly in Goth, with only brief glimpses of real locations during the "fast backward" sequence.)
Grimaldine describes the Brollachan as a "Questing Beast", but isn't that something completely different? He also tells Julie "I need to enter Lord Fear's great tower", yet it seems he must have gained access already, if he's been able to scatter the ARKEN shield fragments in there. Puzzling.
On Play Your Cards Right, the next shelf comes out before Julie actually touches the Queen of Hearts!
The Brollachan seems to take an interest in the most random things. I guess I could imagine why he's trying to find Witch-Haven, if he's overheard the name and wants to see if it's a place he recognises, but what makes him suddenly come out with animal questions or wonder about Sylvester Hands' favourite drink?! You'd think he would start with things that are useful and relevant to his current situation. Or perhaps he thinks buying Sly a drink or two will encourage him to answer more questions!
Which advisor says "Nice one!" when Julie returns in trumph? I've only seen it on YouTube so the picture quality isn't amazing, but as far as I can tell, none of their lips appear to be moving at the time.

Yeah, I think she leans it against the wall but it falls over. She seems to hide behind Treguard so as not to be seen cringing or laughing!
Majida is definitely not a good judge of dungeoneers, expressing doubts about both the ones who go on to win.
I found it funny when he jumped when Brother Strange appeared
Cliff Barry obviously found it funny too, I love how you can hear him laugh as he says "I mean you no harm"!
