I'm sure I remember some team in a later series making that mistake (thinking the food counted as one of their two objects and having to be told otherwise), so if you're right about their thought process, they weren't the last to be confused about that! It was Series 4 Nicky's team in Oakley's glen! Advisor: "Are we only allowed to take two things?" Treguard: "Two things." Advisor: "And we've already taken the bread?" Treguard: "Oh no no, that doesn't count."

Treguard: "Well we always knew Cedric would clobber someone sometime." Or to put it another way: "Yes, we not only kept a homicidal maniac around and allowed him to carry a deadly weapon, we gave him a role where it was his duty to commit murder." I wonder if Treguard knows how lucky he was not to have an HR department. One interesting way - OK, one possible way - to compare different eras of Knightmare is to swap series and quest numbers around. In other words: to compare aspects of this quest, S2 Q7, with aspects of S7 Q2. Treguard's final speech to S2 T7 was one of his most sardonic. (Though it would have been hard for him to commiserate with a team who'd been given the most generous, idiot-proof Knightmare adventure in history and still messed it up.) S7 T2, on the other hand, got Uncle Treguard: dithering ("W-what we need is the Nightsight, where's the Night- ... aw, they haven't got the Nightsight"), doting and perhaps the most compassionate "Ooh nasty" in all of Knightmare. (Though had he wanted to be sardonic, Lord Fear's gloating voiceover would have somewhat stolen his thunder.) I much prefer S2 Treguard.

This scene would have been many watchers' introduction to Mogdred. How menacing to come straight out of temporal disruption into this, with a looming face delivering a barrage of insults (pathetic, pitiful, ordinary, intruder) and Treguard getting so alarmed. I find this line from Mogdred, directed at Treguard, very intriguing: "Silence, you cleaner of cells! If you send your charges this deep then you cannot expect my mercy." In one sentence, Mogdred demeans Treguard; in the next, he acknowledges Treguard's role as the instigator of quests. More than that, he portrays Treguard less neutrally than Treguard portrays himself. You could speculate that Mogdred is showing a grudging respect for the Dungeonmaster, and that that is why he doesn't try to constrain Treguard as he did in Series 2 Quest 7. Then again, Treguard was able to defy that constraint ("Le..tter O!"). Mogdred tempted the dungeoneer to take of the Helmut Best left to Oktoberfest perhaps. Question: Wouldnt the GLORY spell, given to them by mogdred have helped? Oasis might have asked: (What's the Story) Mogdred GLORY?

The volta, or "turn," in poetry is a rhetorical shift in argument, tone, or emotion, which is frequently signaled by transition words, most notably "but"... This shift is particularly prevalent in sonnets, where it serves as a crucial hinge point — often marking the transition... or introducing the final couplet. I don't suppose many children would've thought of this (if it was even intended), either in the studio or at home watching.

The whole clue object choice thing is partly what I was waffling about when I said I could see why they were hesitant about offering the gem to Elita. I can think of a few reasons why they might not want to give it to her: Pickle has said some rather nasty things about her. It's at least plausible to think she might not be wholly trustworthy, although the evidence from their own Quest doesn't really support that, since she held to the bargain over getting them a ride on Smirkenorff. She's conducting some kind of ritual, thus I think they're not totally dense to ask what she wants to do with the ruby. If she's using it to summon evil spirits, create more disgusting and downright offensive clothing like her current attire, or something equally evil, then our "Truth and Justice" motto would perhaps make us question if we want to give her the means for the rite. Elita's unwilling to tell them much about what help she'll offer them in return for the ruby. "The key to my dungeon is the jewel in my crown." Note my dungeon, my crown. This is, I guess, Lord Fear's Dungeon, so it's at least plausible that the right thing to do is to keep the gem for the final encounter and not waste in on a smelly little cavern elf with no dress sense. It's also possible, of course, that the clue just meant "take the jewel because you'll need it", but I'm arguing not that it was needed later on, but that I can see why they had reservations about giving it to Elita. GG does like trying to help excuse teams just a little, to balance out being rather bitchy about them. GG also seems to like making nice orderly lists. 1. 2. 3. Mmmmm, nice lists. This is a very old post (only 20 years later haha) but I'd like to thank you for this as it offers some understanding to the team's actions that I hadn't thought about before. I always thought it was annoying that this team took so long deciding to give Elita the gem, but with the reasons you mentioned it does make it more understandable.

Do you think Peggatty's laughter is Tom Karol? I always think it sounds a lot like Mrs Grimwold. This is something I've wondered about too, and asked for Billy's opinion on via Beg Billy on the Interactive Knightmare website many years ago. I certainly think Peggatty's laughter was done by a man. If it was Tom Karol, I wonder if they'd had it on tape for three years, unused, or if it was newly recorded as an uncredited contribution. I'm not keen on the idea of Tom Karol being called back in just to record a little bit of audio, then sent on his way (even though we know that Tim Child did keep Tom in mind post-Series 3 and worked with him again on the TimeGate pilot in 2002). I do like the idea of Tim deciding to recycle Mrs. Grimwold's laugh for Peggatty, reminiscing about the Grimwolds and that being why Tim included references to the Grimwolds (including a son) in Series 6.

Treguard: "And you have three friends? I hope so." Barry: "Yes. Er, Simon, Derek, Daniel." [The advisors appear] Treguard: "Ah yes. And these friends, they have names?" Yep. The names Barry just used to summon them. This can only have fuelled Barry's determination to be listened to, come what may.

I enjoyed the moment where Daniel disguised himself as Lord Fear In taking on Lord Fear's Series 8 appearance, Daniel went from a skullcap to a skull helmet. As watchers, this scene gave us a sense of what would have happened if Series 6 Team 4 had used Lord Fear's ring to turn January into Lord Fear in Hands's presence.

[I can't add this to the original thread for some reason. Maybe you can merge them?] A brief addendum, if anyone's interested... just a few extra observations I've made whilst skimming through the episodes again! http://canadanne.livejournal.com/2660615.html Belated reply to Drassil: Have you thought about adding a tag to all your Knightmare-related entries, so you can have them all displayed on a single page? As for KM Top Tens, here is a thread you might enjoy. I've never really liked the idea of tagging my posts (it looks messy somehow), though I can do if anyone wants me to. Thanks for the link to the other thread! This forum's been active for so long, I fear I'm probably not contributing anything that hasn't been discussed a thousand times before, but I've not had a chance to read through all the old stuff yet. I hope nobody minds me sharing my thoughts anyway.

Why thankyou. I can't believe it took me so long to write it, about two or three hour but I got there in the end. I don't usually post very long messages as it takes me ages to come up with what to put and sometimes I forget what I have put and what I am going to put, that's why my posts tend to be quite short. But anyway back to the subject before we go too much off topic. (I was goin to put something else in my good bits but forgot what I was going to put).
