I'll opt for Series 3 as my favourite. Hardly an original choice, but it really is very well done. I'd better save other comments for the Series 3 thread.

I usually opt for Series 7 as my least favourite, but I still like it a lot. Some nice new introductions, but as I've mentioned before, I don't like all the silly "The Opposition try to trick Hordriss" storylines. One would be fair enough, but it's used as a story device far too often this series for my taste.

My fave is Series 3, for all the reasons in the Series 3 thread and more.

Least favourite is Series 8. The Level 1 was pretty bland and all the same, and we'd thoroughly explored Level 2 in Series 7.

Series 1 is rather repetitive but when it got going it really built up the tension. Series 2 is by far the most fast-paced series but tended to be too easy (clue objects that weren't needed, easy riddles etc.)

The thing that stops series 3 from being a perfect series is the absence of a winning team. Also, I think it could have benefited from the kind of final conflicts in series 4. As it was, all the level 3 deaths were massive anti-climaxes and as a result rather frustrating - especially as the next dungeoneer would have to start way back at the beginning.

I never liked the graphics from series 4 onwards but those series did have their good points. The final conflicts in series 4 were perhaps the best (that scream from Malice is the best). Series 5 was a little slow but the end of the winning quest where life force was running out was very tense. Series 6 has loads of tension which I think makes it second only to series 3. Series 7 only got really good towards the end - only the last two quests I would rank as absolute classics. Series 8 is quite good - it has just about the best level 3 of the lot. What stopped it from being a classic was the lack of a large range of different rooms and puzzles in level 1, and an already familiar level 2.

So, after all that, I would say series 3 is perhaps the best series, followed by 6 and 2.

I'd say Series 6. The atmosphere was great, all the teams have quests of decent length, superb graphics, and those fantastically haunting causeways as well....  😉

I think the 3rd was the best, all the classic elements of the first 2 series combined with the new improved characters and rooms added in the 3rd.

My two favourites were series 7 and 8.

Firstly- these are the ones that I remember from the first time round and so to me these are what Knightmare is all about.

I thinkl the mix of characters were best: Motley, Stiletta and Snapper Jack from 8, with Greystagg and Grimaldene from 7 and Treguard, Majida, Hordriss, Sidriss, Lord Fear, Lissard and Sly Hands from both.

Also the game play was room to room but had a good mix of puzzles, having to guide the dungeoneer and character interactions whilst always being exciting.

To be honest, I preferred the anti chamber from series 7 but the series 8 game rooms are better.

If pressed I'd probably say 8 (if only it was longer!)

for me the early days capture the originality of the concept. By the 7th and 8th series the ideas became old and the format tired. for me the first 4 years outclass the second 4

The gameplay in season 7 was frequently dull as most locations didn't have any puzzles or obstacles in them at all.

The best season was the third one, although my favourite was the second.

Most people are gonna say series 3 coz they are so purest and the series was totally unforgiving had a unfair death probably a couple actually. No let offs like in other series and No eye shield. Oh and the fact no one won .

My fave series be 4 & 6 anyway.

Series 6 - Just seems most genuine, not too unforgiving, but tough enough?

Favourite series usually stem from nostalgia. Series 2-4 hold most nostalgic value for me, although I love them all. Favourite has to be series 2 - it's pure back-to-basics classic stuff.

Least favourite is series 7. I thought some of the plots were a bit predictable, and the same sequence of rooms kept cropping up. Still Knightmare though, and still class.

                                3 and 4

I would say just 3 if it had:

                                Corridor of blades

                                Transporter pads

                                Swinging axe room

                                Oakley

                                Ariadne

                                Fatilla

Series 6, 7 & 8 to me were my fav overall. What I really liked about them was the music that added so much tension especially in Series 8 with the Reach Wand and the sound of a troll approaching. Really had me shouting at the screen.

Although a lot of people think Series 3 is the best i admit i havent seen every last bit of it but i honestly think it is not very fun because some bits dragged on for ages like with the wall monsters and to me there weren't actually any major traps or puzzles, not like Trial by Spikes or Causeway type puzzles but correct me if i'm wrong here.

Character wise Series 6 & 7 had some very entertaining characters that acted well and made the series seem more interesting and enjoyable. Elita, Rodolfo, Sidriss, Rothberry and Lord Fear are clear examples of this.

Teams wise i prefered the later series because teams didnt die quite as often and i know a lot of people hate the whole letting teams off, but i believe that every team dying on level 1 and a new quest starting off after 10mins is rather tedious and repetitive with that dice room and the same level 1 rooms.

Series 8 is probably my favourite after seeing 6, 7 & 8 again because it was slightly less forgiving with some early deaths, it was in dungeons, etc with music that really added tension and had some great acting from lord fear.

The reason why that seems to be the case is because there were no consistent quest killers in season 3. This is because there were plenty of different obstacles in the early seasons. In later seasons, you could go through three or four different locations at a time without encountering any obstacle or opponents at all (now THAT'S really boring!) so inevitably most of the failures would happen in the one or two puzzles they did encounter. Most of the deaths were on the Corridor of Blades or the Causeways, but that's because there was rarely anything else to stop the dungeoneer. There was far more variety of quest-deaths originally.

Character wise Series 6 & 7 had some very entertaining characters that acted well and made the series seem more interesting and enjoyable. Elita, Rodolfo, Sidriss, Rothberry and Lord Fear are clear examples of this.

Yeah, right! The character list also included Fidjit, Raptor, Romahna, Ah Wok and the Brollachan, so I'd say it was a pretty mixed bag, as it always was throughout the eight seasons.

i know a lot of people hate the whole letting teams off, but i believe that every team dying on level 1 and a new quest starting off after 10mins is rather tedious and repetitive with that dice room and the same level 1 rooms.

Well, the level one rooms were far more varied in the 2nd and 3rd seasons than in the 6th and 7th so that's untrue anyway, but in any case, as I mentioned above the most irritating aspect of Knightmare was the long swathes of nothing happening for up to fifteen minutes at a time in seasons 6 & 7. This was especially common in level one in those years. Watch Naila Khan's quest, team 3 season 7, for an example. In the first quarter of an hour of that adventure she encounters no dangers whatsoever. She just keeps wandering around talking amiably to people. Those tedious spells of inactivity just wouldn't have happened a few years earlier.

The later seasons were comparatively bland.

I know this thread's been done before, but it's only fair doing it again for the knew folks. I'm all for early Knightmare. I can't speak for Season 1, since I never saw any of it - I wish I had. Series 2 and 3 were pretty excellent though. I remember watching a video of one of the later seasons and then putting on episodes from 2 and they're in different leagues. Early on the pace was much faster, the clueroom questions were generally harder (bad news as well for any kids who knew nothing about classical mythology) and there were a number of occasions when I was genuinely sitting on the edge of my seat, willing a dungeoneer to survive!

Two teams won in series 2 as well, so it's not like it was pitched too difficult - just a real challenge.

Season 3 feels the best well rounded, although I do find each season to have at least 1 outstanding element within it which the others don't.

I find S7 to be highly tense, some good ideas and characters, and as I've stated more time than I can remember, I just wish there was more of S4 (in terms of creativity/quest idividuality etc).

Is it me, or was series 7 really quite easy? No causeways, only one instance of the corridor of blades, and far too many seemingly pointless 'sight' spells. Quite how 5 teams still managed to die I can't quite understand. The Play Your Cards Right was, let's face it, not much more difficult than Merlin's Magic Room in series 3 (where, of course, you also had to get 2 riddles correct). The Pooka count was depressingly poor, too.

Series 8, by comparison, was quite groovy. Given a full 16 episodes, it would stand shoulder to shoulder with series 6, laughing at the purple series 4 and be a reasonable contender for best series of the lot. Those things from an episode of Stingray were quite deadly, you had to get some riddles correct (instead of say, bluffing), and the eye shield sequences were never more than 7 seconds long.

Of course, I still have to see series 2...
