Re:ARGH! Challenge Stopped It!
-
It is totally daft for them to stop half way through a series. ANY series, much less Knightmare!
While Challenge is good for viewing old game shows that I watced back in 80's and early -90's (Bullseye, Krypton Factor, You Bet), I do feel that Knightmare has got a raw deal!
While the show is almost 20 years old and hasn't been broadcast for nearly 12 years, new fans keep coming with the reapeats.
Do you only play half a Beatle album because you've heard it before?
I do hope it comes back on. I try not to watch my original tapes, as my series 1 tape is almost 19 years old.
Plus, there's just something about watching it on TV...

I'm 25 and I was the right age for Knightmare but didn't watch it with consistency as a child, I was intrigued and a little bit scared rather than loyal.
I appreciate it much better as a grownup. It's a visionary piece of television and it was just beginning to be a solid part of my routine!
I'm an artist/illustrator and there might be some Knightmare-related paintings in the offing. Possibly wall monsters.
Below is a link to my work if you want to imagine what liberties I might take with Treguard's beard:

wow- someone a bit arty- kinda like me!
I tend to draw modern trains and railways alot though.
Anyway, I'm desperate to see series 4 again (and all the old pookas) but I'm worrying because they aint got the rights anymore have they???
I missed out on that last time around. Watched series2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 but only mondays-fridays!!!
Watching east-asians getting things pelted at them and watching the looks on their faces may have been a good concept but it's a bit tiring to watch now!!!
Especially when it's like 7.57am and you want Knightmare to come on!!!!
oh, and that one-account advert drives me mad!!!
It comes on every commercial brk!!!!

Hi djoska!
The TV man at the challenge forums relented a little bit in light of the the cries of the knightmare fans it seems:

he said:
Ok, series 4 only will be May 2nd-23rd at 2900, weekdays.

obviously he lives in a world of his own where there must be at least 30 hrs in a day..
2900??
twenty-nine-hundred hours??
Right, I guess he means 1900 and not 0900, which would have been better!
(I even checked the link to see if it was your typing error but it weren't!)
Thanks for that!

I thought that about the 2900 hours thing. Perhaps it'll be broadcast in a dimension beyond conventional time.
But in that case I'd like to know how I'm supposed to set the video. How hard is it to read the sentence you've just written?
This all goes to show how arbitrary the Challenge channel's scheduling is.

We must send in the Pooka's immediatly!!!
Be it 9 in the morning, 7 at night or 17PM I SHALL WATCH! WE MUST ALL GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT - RATINGS!?!?!?!!!!!!!
-
Give em ratings- maybe they'll pay the programme more attention and give them pain-striken japanese people a rest!!!!
For those of you that were not aware, Takeshi's Castle is OLD. Older than Knightmare, even. Wikipedia gives its original broadcast dates as 1986-1989. Hence, there's only a finite amount of episodes to show - and Challenge exhausted them all ages ago. But something tells me they'll keep on showing those same episodes again and again and again until everyone is so thoroughly sick of it that the ratings for the entire channel plummet like a chronically depressed lemming. Challenge seem to rely on TC and poker for the vast majority of their viewing figures, and now that there's a separate Player channel for wall-to-wall Las Vegas gambling, TC will, I imagine, take up even more airtime. They're sitting on a potentially devastating time bomb.
Of course, what this also means is that those pain-stricken Japanese people have had a very long rest by now, including the original Count Takeshi who ended up in jail midway through the show's existence...

Maybe we should continue to barrage them with miffed messages at their forums. That seems to have an effect.
It's really off to stop showing a series half way through just because they're bored with it, what about the people who are just discovering/rediscovering it? (Like me!)
They don't realise the revolutionary cultural potency of Knightmare. How many people here are too young to really remember it from the first time, or like me, are only truly able to appreciate how good it is with a grownup brain and in a world apparently dominated by Dick and Dom.

My insane Knightmare-themed blog entry is still there:

I can remember series 5 and 6 quite well from back then!!!
I'm 18 now so I'm not old enough to appreciate the older series' nostalgically but the show still gets the adrenaline running through my veins- just like when I was younger only less scary now!!!
Pookas, guiests, Corridor of Blades- they all used to petrify me!!!
Now I look back and laugh thinking- hey, I like these things now!!!

2900 means 5 am in TV speak apparently. The man at Challenge was a bit surprised that we all didn't know that.
He thinks he's clever because he's a TV man.

I think I may have inadvertantly misled Illusion with the 1st April thing. I recently said that according to the schedules, Knightmare will be on Challenge until "at least the 31st March". In the event, of course, it wasn't. This may have caused Illusion to think it'll be back on the 1st April.

It's on at 4:30 in the morning! How can you watch it then?
