Perhaps more people would enter if I offered them a T-shirt...

We now have a new leader, in the shape of my fellow member of the newly-formed "Seeing Eye spells are pointless" club, Drassil. Congratulations, Drassil, on achieving a phenomenal score of 16, which is fully two thirds of the 24 available marks. Can anyone better this feat? If you're out there, you've got less than 3 weeks to do it!

        Thank you.

Perhaps more people would enter if I offered them a T-shirt...

Quite possibly! Though the quiz is tricky, and unlikely to be everyone's cup of tea. Likewise, Knightmare and QI themselves are the kind of shows which many people love to watch but would never want to participate in. So I wouldn't take it personally. Plus, not everybody's a cat person, so winning a group of lions wouldn't... oh, hang on.

Enter the competition and you could win a fabulous prize - pride!

Oh. I thought you said a pride. My mistake. Better put the gazelles on eBay.

          Very knice.

I've designed my own quiz for the next issue, which I think is slightly easier. Will it make a difference to how many people want to enter? Only time will tell...

Okay, here it is, the third mind-bending round of Knightmare QI! PM me your answers, or e-mail them to eyeshield2002@hotmail.com, by Friday 22nd June and you could be the next TES Knightmare QI champion!

By the way, please feel free to answer as many or as few of the questions as you feel you want to - if you're not a fan of the Knightmare books, for example, you may want to miss some questions out. Obviously, the more questions you answer, the more points you can potentially get, but the greater the risk of answering with a cliche! On that note...

                1. What was the chant used by Lillith in series 1 and 2 to summon her magic causeway?

                2. Who conquered Dunshelm in the first Knightmare book?

                3. Which dungeoneer was the first to use a trapdoor to change levels?

                4. Which was the final wall monster to appear on the programme?

                5. Who was the final character to be seen on Knightmare?

                6. Who was the first female member of a winning team to speak on Knightmare?

                7. What does this sequence signify? (Look back to the previous set of questions if you want a big clue!) ISS, ISS, XEL, ISS, AME, EZE, IRE, OES, ISS, ERO, BAG, ISS, NGE, ISS, AME, ISS.

                8. What is the title of the first Knightmare book?

                9. What is the final spell that is cast in the traditional manner (by spelling it out) on Knightmare?

                10. Which is the only piece of Knightmare canon (TV series and books) not to feature Treguard as a character?

Remember, a correct answer earns you one point, an interesting but wrong answer earns you nil points, and a clichĂ© answer loses you at least ten points. You can earn up to two bonus points for each question by supplying some Quite Interesting supplementary information. I am also offering an extra bonus point for correctly identifying the clichĂ© (or, in one case, identifying the fact that there is no clichĂ©) in addition to supplying the correct answer, so there are four points on offer for each question. By the way, most of these questions are designed to be slightly (but only slightly) easier than the last lot – there are no trick questions, if you know your stuff!

I've just noticed that the somewhat suprising answer to one of the early questions is actually printed in one of the sections of the latest issue of the fanzine, as clear as day! This is not deliberate, but you might want to bear it in mind.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Eye Shield presents the fourth round of Knightmare QI. PM me your answers by Friday August 24th 2007, and you could be the next Knightmare QI champion! Be warned – a few of these questions have what appear at first to be very obvious answers, but there is more to them if you stop and think. (Well, that is the whole point, isn’t it?) Don’t let your guard down and hit a clichĂ©!

                              1. What was the name of Treguard’s second assistant?

                              2. How many dungeoneers met Lord Fear in person (not including just his hand, or appearances on the television screen in the antechamber) during their quests?

                              3. Which is the odd elf out? VELDA, PICKLE, ELITA.

                              4. Who was the first character to say the word “Dunshelm” on the programme?

                              5. On how many television channels in the UK has Knightmare been shown?

                              6. Who was the first dungeoneer to reach the wellway chamber at the end of level two?

                              7. Greystagg’s full title was “Queen of the
” what?

                              8. Motley was absent from how many episodes during his extended break?

                              9. In terms of the number of episodes from the start of the first series in which they were due to appear, which Knightmare character took the greatest amount of time to make their first appearance on the programme?

                              10. During how many quests in series 7 do we get to see the firebomb room?

And there we have it. Remember, for each question, a correct answer earns you one point, identifying the clichĂ© earns you a further point, and there are two bonus points available for supplying some Quite Interesting supplementary information. Again, there is one question without a clichĂ© – spot this fact to earn your bonus clichĂ© point for that question. This time, there is another new rule -- any unanswered questions will incur a penalty of two points each! An effective tactic that has been employed on occasion in the past is to answer only one or two questions, thereby ensuring that no clichĂ©s are hit, which has been a fair enough ploy, but this time things are tougher! Of course, if you’re struggling with one particular question, but are fairly sure that you have scored full marks on all the others, maybe you think you can afford to lose two measly little points – it’s up to you to decide what risks to take, and how many points to risk!

                                  3. According to Knightmare lore, who was the heir to the throne by right of Norman/Angevin descent at the time of Richard the Lionheart’s death?

                                  6. What was the total number of episodes of Knightmare produced by Tim Child?

And there we have it. Remember, for each question, a correct answer earns you one point, identifying the cliché earns you a further point, and there are two bonus points available for supplying some Quite Interesting supplementary information. Thanks again for the questions, HStorm.

No worries. It's kind of fun dreaming up questions for this, although I must admit I'm running out of ideas for them. Maybe someone new can work out a list of questions for KMQI VI?

(Of questionable relevance I know, but I'm running another QI quiz on another forum - http://thegreatcritic.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=miscell&action=display&thread=1131911687&page=2

It's not Knightmare-related, just General Knowledge, but please join in if you're interested.)

The Eye Shield fanzine presents the sixth round of Knightmare QI. The following questions have been devised by current Knightmare QI champion Liam Callaghan, with a few suggestions from me here and there. (As I’m feeling kind, here’s one last tip for you – watch the wording!)

                                          1. How many times did a quest come to a natural end (i.e. not including getting cut short for the end of the series) at the end of an episode of Knightmare?

                                          2. In which series did all the dungeoneers perish?

                                          3. Who was the first dungeoneer to make a pact with Hordriss that involved retrieving an object for him in exchange for magic?

                                          4. Which is the last quest to feature part of the original life force clock?

                                          5. Who was the first dungeoneer to cross the Dunswater in exchange for a bar of gold or silver?

                                          6. During which quest was Hordriss first seen?

                                          7. Which was the final dungeoneer to go head-to-head against Mogdred?

                                          8. Which is the first dungeoneer to be presented with the eye shield at the start of their quest?

How many dungeoneers (of the ones who met a wall monster in series 1-3, and yes, that does include Brangwen, as well as Golgarach, Granitas, Igneous and Olgarth) failed to answer at least one wall monster question correctly? (I.e. they failed to venture ANY correct answers whatsoever.)

                                          10. Who was the first dungeoneer to converse with Smirkenorff?

Remember, for each question, a correct answer earns you one point, identifying the clichĂ© earns you a further point, and there are two bonus points available for supplying some Quite Interesting supplementary information. Don’t forget to watch out for those clichĂ©s – each one you hit will decrease your score by at least ten points, so be careful!
