Knightmare on BBC Four

I think it's a sad indication of the acute fading of the KM fan community that that piece of news elicited no forum interest whatsoever. Nevertheless, I have more news, even bigger news in fact, in a similar vein.
Children's TV On Trial: The 1980s

I spoke to a researcher for this programme back in April, and was told that Knightmare will be covered. In this 20th anniversary year, we could be about to witness a big step towards Knightmare getting the recognition it deserves, and I for one am excited.

Looks like Knightmare has got a reasonable mention. I happened to tune in just as it was being show, as I was setting my video recorder for the overnight screening of the show.

This was the most comprehensive segment about Knightmare that I've seen within one of these children's TV nostalgia shows. The interviews with Tim Child and Hugo Myatt were very pleasing, but the stupid announcer said at the beginning of the segment that the show was presented by "Dungeon Master Hugo Wyatt"! Bloody BBC! It was strange how most of the clips came from series 8, and then they snuck a tiny bit of series 4 in at the very end (Alistair getting cut in half). Overall, though, an excellent viewing experience.

My reaction was "WHOA, Hugo lost the beard!" He looks a lot younger now because of it, though. Nice coverage, though - just when you think they've forgotten all about it, it sneaks in at the very end!

I loved the 'Oooh Nasty' at the end!
Hugo was also pictured in the Sunday Mirror.
Normally I wouldn't read the 'Red Tops' (I'm more of a Times man)
Still I heard on the radio thatt hey had a 'Where are they now' feature and Hugo was in it.
I hope Knightmare gets the recognition it should!

Now that a few people at the BBC have turned their attention to Knightmare, maybe now might be a good time to send a few (polite, naturally) emails or letters to them, encouraging them to consider commissioning a new series. With the huge success of the Doctor Who relaunch, anything is possible - the precedent has already been set.

Ah most fantastic to see. That kind of exposure can only be good. The 'Wyatt' reference was a touch out of place however the rest was well done.
As Malefact said, if an old show can be dusted off from apparently and complete death, and still be successful in today's society, then Knightmare may still have a chance.

Many thanks for that, I enjoyed seeing it and the series as a whole would be good fodder, not of the Goblin, variety for a DVD release on its own I reckon.
Hugo looked younger than his time on the show and in Debz's interview and particularly enjoyed his catchphrase.
I can only assume the 'Wyatt' reference was some sort of in-joke we'll likely never know about.
As for a comeback, sure let's give 'pester power'; it can stimulate interest at the very least.

Nice to see KM getting recognition on TV again, and thanks to Brollachan for letting us see it. I enjoyed the interviews with Tim Child and Hugo Myatt, nice to hear the "Ooh, nasty" once again.

Did anyone see TV on Trial - the Verdict where 4 precocious kids watched tv (and wore the clothes, ate the food, tried the toys) of the tv from the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s and 50s? I wish Knightmare had been on that, I had liked to have seen what they thought. The programmes from the 50s were surprisingly popular.

It sounds like you haven't seen Snatching Time, the short horror film in which a clean-shaven Hugo starred last Hallowe'en. It's on YouTube, and is worth watching.

I feel partially responsible for this error getting through. When I spoke with the researcher, she made a reference to "Hugo Wyatt", but I felt it would be rude to correct her, assuming I hadn't misheard. I didn't know he'd then be named as such in the programme!
Also, I thought it was ironic that none of the Knightmare clips came from the '80s.

Personally, I have doubts over how worthwhile that would be. Partly because Tim Child has, in his own words,
abandon[ed] Knightmare to its current position as a piece of Television history;
partly because even if Tim Child has changed his mind, then his own contact with the BBC, during the making of the documentary, will surely have set any wheels turning that need to be turning; partly because it was very pleasing just to have Knightmare remembered by the documentary, and I feel we'd be 'pushing our luck' by asking the BBC to do more; and partly because I agree with Pooka's opinion that
BBC have Raven, now they have a fake Knightmare they don't need a real one.
Those are just my views, however. If anyone does actually go ahead and write to the BBC as suggested, please let the forum know how you fare.

It's not uncommon for BBC Four programmes to be repeated several months later on BBC Two. I hope this will be the case with the Children's TV On Trial documentaries.

Do you reckon that the VO guy was on team 7 of season 2, perhaps? I remember when their quest ended, a certain somebody related to this discussion asking them, "How would you like someone to get your name wrong...?"
